And when he said one came unto him we had again already moved on, rather obviously

First he talks about divorce, then eunuchs, then people bring little children to him, then the disciples tell the people that they should t bring them, then Jesus says it’s okay, blessed them, and sends them away. That’s a chronological list for you

one (probably) child comes to him (verse 16). And asks why does he deserve to go to heaven. Jesus says that as long as he's kept the commandments he's fine. But in verse 21 he tells him to sell his possessions to be super great (another reason why i'm skeptical it was biological children). Then verse 22 the child walks away depressed as he had great possessions.

We are talking about a young man noted as a rich young ruler. He was in a governing position, and was a young man. Notice the word man, which would have meant that he wasn’t a child ( our modern use of young man is different as are our ages for adults)

Also note he left the area so that wasn’t one of the children from he previous verse

Young man could mean that jesus' wisdom changed the child into a man (mentally) or he could just use young man to describe the child in a more straightforward way. Verse 16 says that one of the children that had departed had come to jesus.

If that’s not God claiming to be intelligent, I’m not sure what is.

It simply is not !!

Please read it, straightforwardly

There is no mention of intelligence or any similar quality.. is there ?

You would clearly like there to be, but if it isn't there, it isn't there

It simply is !!

I am reading it, straightforwardly.

It says that God understands everything. That is an indication of being all-knowing, and therefore intelligent.

You would clearly like there not to be, but if it is there, it is there.

The bible is true because god says so because the bible says so, etc.

I’m not debating the truthfulness of the Bible with Gina. She asked me for a verse where God claims to be intelligent. I did.

Well at least you are diligent.

Thank you.

This argument is ridiculous and exasperating. It’s so obvious to me I feel like I’m teaching ABCs. This particular passage is mentioned in several places in the gospels. One is often substitute for someone in Old English, as you would know if you had read the classics. As to your other suppositions, I am reading it literally and you are hanging on to threads trying desperately not to admit I may have a better knowledge than you of a book I’ve studied my whole life

But there's a contradiction if you assume the people in verse 14 to be children as later one of them is refereed to as a young man. Every thing makes sense if you see the word children as a metaphor.

I’m officially done with this forum. I prefer face to face. Most atheists at least are more polite and act like decent people face to face. Some of you make good points, and I applaud you for that. Some of you just say what you’ve heard said, and I encourage you to research your position. The Christians here need to buck I’m up their research. It’s like walking into an official meeting at the White House in a white tee. I’ve enjoyed to some extent the conversation with Manatini. Some with ginger. He just needs to study his opponents material as well. I study evolution and arguments against Christianity so I can defend myself.
Avatar of chessfightstream
I suppose you’ll word this as a defeat of a Christian. Nope. Just a Christian moving on to something useful, as opposed to nonsensical discussion. Ginger, do your research on the rich young ruler. Your supposition is supported by no one anywhere
