Covid-19 Discussion (moderated)

I don´t know if this has been already posted, as I didn´t check every post: countries where the BCG vaccine (anti TB) is mandatory seem to have less death rate.

In USA, most western Europe and Ecuador, that vaccine is not mandatory. In Iran, other of the countries hit worse by the illness, the vaccine started to be mandatory after 1984, so elder people didn´t get it. The same with China, the BCG vaccination stopped during the chaos of the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976)

It is amazing the difference in number of cases and death between Spain and Portugal. The first doesn´t vaccine against TB, the second does. It is also interesting the situation of Germany. The west side has the most cases and death. The east, the former RDA, where people got the BCG before 1990, has less.

Don't forget to keep the discussion tied to the outbreak.

On the topic of major sports during the outbreak, I'm hopeful that the change in perspective that comes with serious world events convinces a number of people to see spectator sports (especially major leagues) as they actually are:  not really important for anything and largely a vehicle for consumerism and advertising.

£240,000 per annum = less than £5000 per week, some 10 times lower than the £50,000 per week figure. Let me go down to the woods to see if I can find a bigger bit of stick for you to give them. Pep Guardiola's mother has been taken by Covid 19, I'm sure though that his reported £22,000,000 salary means he is exempt from all the feelings regular people go through when losing a loved one.

Like a typical American I don't follow football, so I'm curious... is the goalkeeper often the top earner?

Edit, I notice it was a monthly figure I stand corrected.

I have every sympathy for Pep Guardiola, however what exactly has that go to do with Premier League wages and the players reluctance to give ANY of it up ?

'On £50000 + a week, they will somehow make it through this 🙂'

choices , you made yours , others choose to love a club you seem to not like , you must admit on purely football terms they choose well though as this Liverpool team is one that is causing so many other fans envy and respect

And what is happening with your "sports stars" ?

No idea to be honest. I don't follow sports.

I read it, I won't comment until I absorb some more about from other sources, but it's worth researching.

Yeah, you got to be careful to make sure there's an actual link. Otherwise you can end up with some silly stuff:

It's interesting but i haven't delved into it enough to say much about it.  What did jump out at me was Ecuador on the map.  I've seen some nightmarish COVID-19 video coming from there.

I have to say it's refreshing to see 3 people all respond that they looked into it and are reserving judgment for now...such a difference from the old locked thread where most people were going off half cocked and there were only a few people calling for scrutiny on various new wrinkles, rumors, etc.
