Covid-19 Discussion (moderated)

You're fighting with a monster that's too big. You describe the problems that exist without Cov-19 and that have been exacerbated by this pandemic. You talk too generally. I have a difficulty understanding your writing in the context of the pandemic. Can you perhaps describe a specific case in which the connection with the pandemic is visible?

Most of these problems can be traced back to local politics and its system. I can't expect any government of any country to be able to solve global poverty now. There are already many efforts. But no country can simply interfere in the politics of another country.

However, I also hope for global solidarity. I think that the distribution of the vaccine by the rich countries is a realistic example for this moment.

The blood clot issues are lottery level scarce, and have been around for every vaccine and variant combo I have read about.  Not something to really worry about.

There was a rumor that Colin Powell died from complications of Covid.  He did not.  He passed away from Multiple Myloma. Is it possible that Covid exasperated that condition.?....sure. surprise.png

This is the type of stuff i have a problem with Ron.  It just seems that they want to link every death to covid.  Awhile back there was some 94 year old woman who had dementia and terminal cancer.   So what was the cause of death?  Yep...covid.  Did it contribute?  Im sure it did. But to out it down as the cause of death?

RonaldJosephCote

Yeah, that's the fall back excuse for everything.

If a person passes away after having Covid, or has post-Cvoid respiratory issues, etc., then Covid is the proximate cause of death.  It doesn't really matter if they were on their last legs or not.

Flu deaths also reflect a large number of weak and elderly patients, but the flu is still the correct cause of death for the certificate.

Replies in general to pages 4 & 5 of the locked thread:

- "Reverse misogyny" is known as misandry.  Something someone who claims degrees in philosophy should know.

- "Yeah , thats btickler. Poor sucker got Pfizer.  Either hes telling himself hes vaccinated or he was first in line for the booster. He'll want another bailout of cash  in 3..2..1....whats another trillions for the old gen? Hey hes "cares" about the kids lol Hes a bitter old monster."

Not sure I sound like the bitter person here, but I'll be the better person and leave it alone.  Not sure why anyone would be sorry for the vaccinated, unless you live in la la conspiracy land.  No idea where the bailout reference even comes from...I don't think I have even talked about stimulus payments during Covid other than in passing.

That's nice!

Brazil applied 270 million doses (oct 25, 2021), including about 2 million of Covaxin, however our population is 214 million people, that means we have 54% full vaccined.

Governments, WHO, and other partners are all working very hard to try to secure initial doses for all countries as soon as possible. Though vaccines alone won’t end the pandemic, they will be an extremely important additional tool in strengthening our response to COVID-19 when used in combination with the other measures we know work.

Current evidence shows that the existing COVID-19 vaccines are effective at stopping disease, especially severe disease, but we still don’t know if they prevent people from becoming infected with the virus. This means that being vaccinated will stop you getting very sick, but it may not prevent you from passing the virus onto others. It is also the case that while these new vaccines are very promising, no vaccine is 100% effective. So even once vaccines are rolled out, we must maintain adherence to all the other measures that we know work to stop transmission of COVID-19.

I’m surprised that I’m not blocked from btickler so thank you for letting me join the discussion.

From what I know doesn’t the effect of the vaccine on your body differ with the state and age of your body?

You mean in terms of efficacy?  The vaccine itself still does its job, that is informing/teaching your immune system what to do, but age itself compromises the immune system in some ways, so your "activated" immune response is still not as effective as if you were a younger person that got vaccinated.

That also assumes you are comparing apples to apples, as in a relatively healthy younger person and a relatively healthy older person, let's say.

As for blocking, at the time the mods designated this thread as the "go to" Covid thread, I unblocked everyone that had previously been blocked to give them a second chance since I personally did not think it would be fair otherwise (those people being blocked did not know it would result in them not having anyplace else to talk about Covid at the time they got blocked)...so pretty much the only people that are blocked right now are those who got blocked once, came back, and got themselves blocked for a second time.

Hard to feel sorry for those in that situation.
