School district re-opens, school district reports 1200 Covid-19 cases 10 days later.  When will reality sink in...

Thee_Ghostess_Lola

1200 cases ?...i thought just Q'ed.

In the UK schools are due to re-open at the beginning of September. All the talk from the government is that this will happen under whatever circumstances are needed, so we close pubs, bars, restaurants, shopping etc if necessary in order to get the schools open again. I agree with this, more from the social impact on children than the educational. Meanwhile all A-level and GCSE results, the 2 pillars of school age educational attainment here, are being worked out by an 'algorithm' for this years pupils who have not sat exams. A-level results have been announced (on which places at University are determined) and there is much furore about actual grades being below what pupils have been predicted, and that this discrepancy on the surface is linked to socio-economic factors.

perfect example strangemover. yee ! shows that when u dont have a nat'l mandate then itsa total free-for-all. just wut we need.

and like ive said like gobsa times before, a nat'l mandate is req'd when u have interstate travel on planes, trains, & thumbs.

We still have some bickering between the devolved governments in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland vs the central government in London but on the Covid strategy they have mostly been in agreement. I suppose that the sheer vastness of the United States, where many individual states are the size of nations in both land area and economic power, such agreement is more difficult to arrive at (on Covid or anything else for that matter).

Additionally the actions of individuals causes many problems and this is also true here. It was announced 2 days ago that several nations were to be added to the list from which you would have to quarantine for 14 days upon returning to the UK as of 4am today due to rising infection levels there. Included in this list was France where some 160,000 British dim wits were located, having decided to press ahead with their vacation plans. Cue a mad scramble to return before the quarantine deadline (an arbitrary line in the sand anyway, you are still a risk if you return at 1am or 5am no?) with folks paying 4 times the normal cost for flights and ferries, the Eurostar completely booked out. There has been talk of this decision having to be made for weeks, Spain was added to the quarantine list a few weeks ago (another British vacation hot-spot) but still they went. Even those who have changed plans and vacationed here are causing issues. There have been packed beaches. Idiots walking/climbing in difficult terrain being completely under prepared has led to 8 times as many callouts to mountain rescue teams in Wales, Scotland and the Lake District.

Can't people spend  their vacations at home once in life?? we are in a pandemic, bros...

Strangemover

No mate. In the words of several people I have seen interviewed by the media today 'we knew we were taking a chance ha ha'. I don't get it... I would have booked some holiday about a month ago for early next year myself under normal circumstances, but how it can even be a fun and relaxing experience right now? I plan to spend twice as much as normal next year and have double the fun 🤞😎

I suggest you start by reading the title of thr the thread, and then have a look at what has been said in the last few comments, I am sure it will be more helpful than mindlessly asking "what you guys talking about?".

Why are healthy people quarantined?

You, sir, are the perfect example of why the US has so many more deaths and so many more cases than any other country. Even compared to so many other countries with a higher population or countries that are far more densely populated and have less money/resources to deal with it, the US is still far worse...

Did it ever occur to you that 'asymptomatic' people under the age of 24 may (I know it might be hard for some people to comprehend) pass it on to other people within the population whom are not so young and not so healthy?

You are constantly, rather ignorantly, trying to downplay the whole thing. Now if you lived in the Far East where we got this thing under control pretty early due to people very simply NOT being ignorant, selfish idiots then I would understand where you were coming from. However, considering you are from the country that couldn't have possibly dealt with it in a worse way, it's just incredible people like you are still stupid enough to ask 'why are healthy people quarantined?'.

You also need realize the average American has a much poorer diet than most of those in the Far East and a FAR HIGHER rate of obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure across ALL age groups than pretty much every other country, too.

Actually, seeing what he just said, explaining anything, even in short, would have been a waste of time.

He's blocked now and can't reply, as of when I said "might as well make it five...".  Which isn't to say your assessment isn't on the nose, but he can't defend himself, so...
