100 million cases worldwide.  The US has steadily increased to over a quarter of the world's cases, at close to 26 million now.

Deboragh

please post on my thread here in this forum called Remember Those Who Died of Covid. It is intended to remember those departed as everyone has no doubt been touched with tragedy. Thank You

Covid cases per day in the U.S. dropped significantly right after the election, and they continue to drop at a pace that doesn’t seem possible. You know how closely I’ve followed the trends, and this one is distinct. Pretty weird.

Could anyone help me with reading charts? I can´t see any continuing drop of Covid-cases after November last year in those graphs on the linked site.

LISBON, Portugal (AP) — In the first week of December, Portugal’s prime minister gave his pandemic-weary people an early Christmas gift: restrictions on gatherings and travel due to COVID-19 would be lifted from Dec. 23-26 so they could spend the holiday season with family and friends.

Soon after those visits, the pandemic quickly got out of hand.

By Jan. 6, Portugal’s number of new daily COVID-19 cases surged past 10,000 for the first time. In mid-January, with alarm bells ringing as each day brought new records of infections and deaths, the government ordered a lockdown for at least a month and a week later shut the countrys schools.

But it was too little, too late. Portugal has for almost a week had the most daily cases and deaths per 100,000 people in the world, according to statistics compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

Outside the countrys overloaded hospitals now, long lines of ambulances wait for hours to deliver their COVID-19 patients.

Never underestimate human ignorance.

No, what problem do you see?

<<A study published in the peer-reviewed journal Matter in July found that wearing two masks could increase protection from virus particles by 50% up to 75%. It not only added an extra layer of protection but also made the mask fit snugger around the face, said Dr. Loretta Fernandez, study author and associate professor at Northeastern University.>>

Are two masks really that much of a problem for people? If wearing masks prevents us from shutting down the economy that everyone loves so much, then what's really the problem?

I bet anti-foot covering people were just as disappointed when people started wearing shoes and socks.

It's not Fauci's problem. It was the WHO wich in the beginning of the pandemic stated that masks were not useful for people in general. They changed it afterwards

Pat_Zurr

Another method....

Fauci said masks don’t work. It was a lie. Fauci is a mouthpiece.

Utter rubbish. He didn't say masks don't work - he said it wasn't necessary to wear a mask, because at the time the evidence wasn't there to demonstrate that the shortage that would create for health workers would be worth any benefit.

The evidence was then that masks are effective and he was on board with that.

You make it sounds like he's flip flopped, whereas what's he's done is follow the science over the course of time, and continued to follow the science even when some of the political leaders didn't want to.

It is okay to change your mind if evidence demonstrates that you were wrong. If you instead refuse to accept when you are in fact wrong then you end up where you seem to have ended up, where people want to believe whatever they want irrespective of how disconnected from reality it is, and when challenged or corrected they claim to be a victim that is being censored.

Anyone who says masks don’t work or are ineffective is an idiot. Fauci has been all over the place, admitted to deceiving the public, and at no time has he been anything but a mouthpiece for the leftist agenda.

And you complain in other threads about political comments...'donkeys' I believe was the word you used to describe those that couldn't resist.

The data you linked shows that daily cases skyrocketed following the election, so I will assume you meant following the inauguration, in which case...

You mean that the holiday surge is now behind us?  Yes, this was predicted.  If your implication is that Covid is a hoax and now the numbers are dropping for political reasons, well...that's a pile of crap wink.png.  What is going to be your take when the variant "bumps" emerge and also die down over time?  When vaccinations start to actually drop *all* the numbers, will that also be merely to spite one side of the aisle?

Notes to nobody in particular...

- I realize this thread is now the last of the Mohicans, but I will be continuing to block people per the criteria in the OP.

- Don't respond to political jabs with purely political replies.  You can always say something like "not true [link]" and bring it back around to the outbreak.  Help keep the thread from drifting into the land of Facebook forwarders wink.png.

Notes to somebodies in particular:

- I haven't seen the posts in here for the past couple days, so ExploringWA, I will belatedly tell you that you've down to your last strike.  And that's only because I wiped the slate clean now that this is the only viable Covid thread to post in.  If you really need to know exactly what for, I'll be happy to point out the problems, but I don't think you need me to tell you.

- Watch the meme-ish content , Pat_Zurr.  If you don't have any real input for the thread you won't be posting here.  I am not setting a specific criteria, but let's just say that I only expect to see a meme or mocking YouTube video once in a while, lightly sprinkled amongst a solid body of actual contributions.

Pat_Zurr

If you wish to control the narrative on a topic you start, I gather you have that lattitude.  If you actually do want open dialogue, you cannot shut down opinions you disagree with.  History is riddled with tyranny and one of the first things to be shut down is free speech.  If you wish to have a functioning free society, you must allow people to express their opinions to gain understanding.  We should never be afraid of the truth.  In my quest to find truth, I have found I was wrong on some things and right on others and many times it was because I allowed myself and sometimes forced myself, to actually listen to something or someone that ran counter to preconceived notions or bias. I often didn't like what the truth was, but I have found it is better to know the truth, than live a lie.  I believe everyone can contribute and that you can learn something from everybody, whether it is considered positive or negative.

My challenge to you is to take the heavy hand off this thread and let it resolve itself on its own volition.  As to the picture I posted of Mr. Fauci, what do you see here?  A picture can say it all and it does.  Actions often speak louder than words and there is no clearer example of hypocracy than this.

I am also a person who had covid and what I experienced was flu like symptoms with extreme fatigue as being the worst of it. I have actually had flu strains worse than covid.  To conclude, I am a truth seeker and there are others like me who are truth seekers.  I despise nearly all politicians both right and left and the money that funds their agendas.   Yes, I do believe there is an agenda and that many have become drunk with power.  These pet camelons take on whatever color their owners pick.

I'm glad that forum got locked tbh, will be migrating here, probably won't be as active however. This forum is actually informational, so will be reading more than writing this time : )

Yes, unfortunately better moderated also = less exciting/controversial/adversarial most of the time wink.png.  But we need a lot more of that around here.
