Hope the Christmas and New Year parties will be low key, keeping in mind the dangers of mass gathering at present

I guess we have to define what mass gathering means. In our state the governor flip flopped again and now says in a week schools can reopen if they want. I don't think a few hundred people counts as a mass gathering. I guess if a school is 5A or 6A a couple thousand might be considered a mass gathering. With the Christmas spike coming, and then opening schools probably a few weeks or month after that it should be interesting to see what the results are.

I do know a few business have just given up on the states response and are just going to open anyway. A mayor of a town not too far outside of Portland announced that his city may open businesses if they want. I expect others to follow.

You need everything explained?

In this case yes. Do you consider 1,200 or more people, the amount in a 5A or 6A school, a mass gathering? Actually, an explanation would be very much appreciated. Most people were a little surprised there would be such a flip flop on this issue.

Which part do you want explained?

The part I asked about. Do you consider 1,200 or more people at one location a mass gathering? You said keep in mind the dangers of mass gathering. So, the part that might need explanation is what constitutes a mass gathering.

In our state the governor just recently said she would like to see schools re-open after January 1. I'm not for or against that idea, because I proposed 9 months ago that each district decide for itself what to do. Apparently she finally got my memo. But it does call into question what a mass gathering might be. It also makes one wonder about other places might be able to open up. For example, if it's ok to have 1,200 kids inside a school, would it be ok to have 120 people inside a restaurant.

Let me ask you this, what would your common sense tell you?

I believe society has become so accustomed to easy, that there are now people living in large cities who will starve to death without restaurants.

We were sitting around having a conversation about that very thing yesterday. At one point in time, people ate what was good for them, when they needed it. We were driving to the coast and saw a deer eating some shrubbery in the side of the road. Nobody has to tell that deer when to eat, or what to eat. It already knows.

But people now have to be told what to eat, when to eat, and where to eat. Like you said, they would probably starve if there wasn't a commercial on TV telling them what restaurant to eat at. Restaurants have now literally become essential. So it comes as no surprise that with so many people depending on the TV to tell them what to eat, where to eat, and when to eat we now see people who wont stop. They just keep believing the TV, and keep eating.

So now we see other commercials on TV for those same people. They advertise machines that people can use to simulate exercise. They perform various exercises, like jogging, indoors, literally on a machine. Because they were told that's how to do it. I guess I underestimate how many people haven't figured out how to operate the outdoors.

Give me a minute and I will update my profile pic of where I exercise. It’s a short walk to the upper end of my property.

They say a vaccine will help with herd immunity. Thereby reducing the number of deaths that are covid related. In our state today they said about 20% of our vaccination stockpile is being used. Apparently they have more important things to worry about than using existing vaccines.

What's also interesting is that, according to Dr. Fauci, it will take up to 90% of the population being vaccinated to reach herd immunity. Which means in our state it will take just over 4 years to get enough people vaccinated. I can wait 4 years, but there is a chance not everyone can.

So no herd immunity unless people get vaccinated?
