Hey! It was an old account I don’t use anymore, they just changed the password and email, it was more of a troll than anything.
Avatar of Nightfury08h
In fact they changed the email to a new one with the old password on it. It’s the most trolly thing ever.

Ik
Windows is a bigger target
By that logic, I’m assuming that there are more people attacking windows then Linux
And by that assumption, I can also assume that Linux is probably slightly safer, as there are less hackers

What is the primary risk? Is it zero-days?

Personally, I think both are secure. It all depends in how you manage them. For example...

  • Only install software from trusted sources (perhaps you can use a utility to only allow known and trusted software to launch.
  • Stay up to date on software updates
  • Don't use admin/root for day-to-day use
  • Use a strong password. possibly even 2FA.
  • Configure failed login and lockout policies
  • Enable drive encryption

My reddit account just got hacked.

what was your password?

Avatar of Nightfury08h
2fa is nearly obsolete now. Hackers are using things like phone redirects to get the 2fa texts or hacking your email to get the code. So for high security applications I would use an air gapped system with heavy security.

Idrk what the primary risk is
I personally aint a hacker, so I can’t tell u

Ik both are secure, but im assuming that windows is slightly less secure cuz it has a lot more user, and therefore likely has more hackers
Avatar of Nightfury08h
It was made when I was 15 and back then I didn’t care about cybersecurity so i used the same password for everything.
BTW Im not telling anyone.

Is that how you got hacked?

Also I’m no expert on cyber security, like I said it’s just a hobby and I’m an amateur.

I don’t use 2ds hardly ever now
I put in my password, and that’s it
I sometimes use email code, but that’s only once a month or so

I use the same password for everything, but I change all the numbers and whatnot, so I have a solid 30 different random number combos memorized

#48 idk maybe, they probably found some site where I used that password and the site had week protection, it’s not that hard to trace it from there since I like to use the same username for everything. (So my friends can find me)

Everyone starts atthe beginning. it's ok. How/why was your account hacked?

I assume weak or compromised password and you never changed it?

Thats why people use password managers. Makes it easy to have a different password on each site... and the password manager will even create a strong one.

#53 it was an older account, idk maybe someone found my password and email on a different site and looked it up on reddit to see if I had any credit card information on there, maybe it was a troll who got lucky and brute forced my password? Idk.
Avatar of AwesomeAtti

I take it a step further and even have a different username for many sites so if a site is compromised I can disable the email so I don't get spammed.

Avatar of AwesomeAtti

Very unlikely brute forced.

#54 never use password manager, it’s too easy for people to hack your google account and get into password manager than get into sites where you have you bank details, than it’s game over.

How they gonna hack your google account? A shared spreadsheet on Google is not a password manager.

Avatar of MasonEx
#59 if they can hack a reddit account they can easily hack a google account
