I most certainly do not. I just Believe in Jesus or God.

I Think Religion is man made.

But I am not ashamed to call myself a Christian.

Why doe's Christ have to come first in a Christian life.  Answer is...   I am Nothing without Christ  first in my life.  And Finaly

A little reminder to all Christians  7 days without prayer makes one weak.

My belief is that my belief is irrelevant.

It wouldn't be right for the created to understand the creator entirely.

We should try to be god-like in our own actions & the world would be a better place.

If this offends anyone, then I apologise & retract.

I totally agree with you Big Boy, God is not about religion, he is about relationships!!  Religion is a man made creation, it is not from God.  Jesus did not organize a religion, he inspired others to follow him.  Personally, I refer to myself not as a Christian, but as a follow or Christ.  Not that there's anything wrong with being a Christian, its just that I want to separate myself from man made institutions!

Isn't belief in Jesus or God religion?  James 1.27 (RSV) says "Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world."  St. James had a notion on what religion is and it's important for him.  I consulted a dictionary and the first meaning there is "system of beliefs, including belief in the existence of at least one of the following: a human soul or spirit, a deity or higher being, or self after the death of one’s body."  There are many other contextual meanings.  Obviously you have to define what you mean by religion.  I heard this question before and what is usually meant by religion is organized or institutional religion.  Is that it?

N.B.  I'm saying the above with due respects (any talk on politics or religion are always delicate, one mistake goes a long way).  Everybody is correct when we talk about religion, and philosophers object because at the most only one is correct.  The bible is a good guide, but completely heinous things can come out of it if it's interpreted erroneously.  I suggest that we not talk religion here.

Don't you know not to discuss religion or politics? Both subjects make everyone angry. Wink

Nonetheless, I'll chime in anyway. I'm no expert, and would agree that most religions are man made. However, for Christians, the Old Testament of the bible contains the Jewish laws/rules as handed down by God the Father. And the New Testament contains the establishment of the Catholic church by Jesus (God the Son).

religion is man made, therefore subject to error. GOD(if he ,she whateva exists-and i do believe in a personal God-must be perfect. therefore the best scenario is a RELATIONSHIP with GOD, not being dependent on another man's (or woman's)view of what we should believe and how we should act. pre-civilization man didn't have religion as such, but saw the sky, sun, seasons, nature, and the beautiful world we live in and must have wondered how it all got there and who or what is responsible for it. thus is the beginning of religion or a belief set. i can't see a more perfect stating of love than God's love for us(if this is part of your belief set)when he died for us!

I did post another comment on here, then decided to delete it.

We don't all have to agree.

Just to say, I love my fellow man regardless of his religious beliefs.

That's it. I'll say no more.Sealed

Religion divides people, games unite them.  Believe in religion if you must, but play chess.  I believe in people and their power to do good, not in religion.

Jesus did found a religion, with customs/sacraments/practices to be carried out by human beings such as confession, eucharist, marriage, baptism and of course the mass. We know it today as the Catholic Church, led by the pope in an ubroken chain since St. Peter!! (Read the bible its all in there!!)

The catholic church is not the church Jesus founded, it's the church Paul founded. Besides read about the real history of christianity instead of just the bible. I'll give you a short account.

Jesus during his life was a prophet and was not so unique as there was many different so-called prophets, when he died he was not very popular and christianity consisted of jews who accepted the christ as their savior, but it was a JEWISH sect. Then Paul, a good and learned "jewish roman" came to suppress troubles in Damascus caused by this very christian sect (although I have to double check this, maybe it was for another reason EDIT: I was right:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Road_to_Damascus), then, following his account
he had visions of the christ and converted himself. He then started to preach this religion around, when when he went to preach to the non-jewish romans, people were not ready to become jews (you have to remember that at this time christianity was necessarily jewish) and adopt the jewish customs. So Paul decided that it was not necessary anymore, thus came the first schism and what we now consider as christianity is "Paul's christianity" in fact. Then troubles in Palestine were rather important, the roman empire had a rebellion at hands there, it was finally repressed, but the outcome of this is that roman tolerance for jews became pretty low, so many of the christian jews, decided to join Paul and the jewish christians "section" of christianity almost disapeared, and eventually did not so long after. And as Christianity came at the right time (the Pax Romana) many people converted, especially to the more strong and comforting concept of ONE god, which incidentally happened at the time where the Roman Republic became the Roman Empire, and the transformation of the senate (a kind of political polytheism) to the Emperor (political monotheism) made the transformation of polytheism to the monotheism maybe more naturally in the minds of the people.

I'd give you sources, but this moslty comes from history books I don't have anymore, although I'll try to find sources on the net.

And he initiated the change from jewish christian to christian because gentiles wouldn't accept the jewish faith. Which is the base of one of the main contradictions of christianity.
