Poker and chess are similar in many ways. Obviously, both games involve provoking a mistake from the opponent(s) that you can exploit. However, both poker and chess also involve calculations of sorts, offer certain patterns (chess meaning tactical themes and poker being betting concepts relating to pot size and odds), and similar thinking to chess in several other ways.
Naturally, the biggest difference is that chess has no luck involved (none in the sense that each move has no probability associated with it) whereas poker is more about risk management and dealing with short-term variance to minimize the "luck-element." ![]()
