This makes sense to me, as in the quest to "catch" title norms.
Do You Want To Be A Master?

I guess lol the only similarities I see with this is in "gotta catch em all", in Pokemon, as pertains to Chess, you could say gotta catch "Chess Patterns".

True that one can "catch" chess patterns, but I also like ernestogon 's concept of "catching" title norms. However, this Pokemon song applies to a lot of goals in life though - not just a chess ability reached. Songs like these often talk about traits like "courage" or motivation to continue moving forward; chess just happens to fit this criterion, but so do most goals people shoot for. These traits, in turn, make it easier to reach said goal - but ultimately a part of this "quest" really is the "journey" along the way. (This really does sound like a Pokemon episode )

Odd observation I just made regarding this funny analogy ... but if you swap "Pokemon" for "Chess Players" instead of "Chess" - the song sorta-kind-of makes even more sense than before!

Well goals and being a master are two different things, you're not going to be good let alone a master at everything that you pursue. I guess I am not really resonating with this analogy, no offense.
Has anyone else noticed the similarities in the quest to become a titled chess player versus becoming a Pokemon Master? Just replace the word "Pokemon" with "Chess" and most of the 1997 intro song still makes sense.
