I think I would fall into the compatibilism category.
Does True Randomness Actually Exist? ( ^&*#^%$&#% )
Twpsyn, you sound like a good fit in this cuckoo's nest ; )
uke: "in fact questioning free will in the face of determinism is very relevant."
i think that compatibilists explain their contradiction with word jiggling. iow, they change the definition of FW to something else, and then claim that this "something else" is compatible.
here's a simplistic chart for the terminology..

opti, I know this wont change your mind, but i want you to see it anyway : )
“Einstein described Maxwell's work as the "most profound and the most fruitful that physics has experienced since the time of Newton".[9] Einstein, when he visited the University of Cambridge in 1922, was told by his host that he had done great things because he stood on Newton's shoulders; Einstein replied: "No I don't. I stand on the shoulders of Maxwell".

Hence another rival of Isaac Newton. What ho, we've got John Flamsteed, Edward Halley, Robert Hooke, Gottfried Leibniz and Einstein!
am looking into the origin of viruses, and some people claim that they pre exited life.. how is this possible if they depend on life for their own existence?

I guess they would say that they served another function in the past/ were themselves a precursor to life?
not sure what you mean by another function. they cant survive for too long outside of a host. and if there were no hosts around..
I’m usually the other side of this argument.
I could do some research and get back to you if you like.
prawn, I dont know where you got this rivalry idea from
Where else aside from the Scientific Revolution? John Flamsteed a notably poor astronomer probably could have fared better with equines; Gottfried, fried up a calculus quandary; Hooke, attempting to hook everyone with the universal law of gravitation, what a pitiful cell biology crustacean... Edmund Halley, a moderately decent astronomer, but his vocal cords could have been used at least in EE, rather than disparaging Newton. And now, Einstein. Almost makes me pitiful for the newton SI unit, but not really... I can't convey the force, so there!
Which town in Wales do you reside in?
