To prevent such underhanded behavior, I'd propose that only the last comment of a thread should be editable. Otherwise responses to a post may not make sense.

Fair enough. I accept that.
However the thread attacking another member that lead to my creation of the locked thread in the first place remains unlocked & its op unwarned. He goes on to underhandedly changed the topic title and content, as I had openly predicted. What is the message we're sending to our members?
