Almost forgot. Freedom is not free. It always comes at a price, but it is always worth more than you pay.

Absolutely!
It's a free country. Freedom of speach, free to roam from border to border, free to choose your own lifestyle, free to listen to music and enjoy art of any design. Why not free internet! ((>:)
Thanks Fred, good stuff here and I will add your name to our list, let "free"dom ring!

Freedom of speech means the "liberty" to speak one's mind.
Free internet means "it costs nothing."
Two totally different meanings of the word "free." A logical fallacy.
So if internet is free, how about free cable, free food, free housing, free cars. Does anybody have to work for a living? If not where is all the free stuff supposed to come from??
"Free internet" will NOT come at no cost; somebody has to pay for it.

Did I say "dangerous"?? I can't find that word in my post. Not sure what you are talking about. What I am talking about is people who think "paid for by taxes" means "free". This is not obvious from the topic.
Some highways are paid for by tolls, which means the users pay for them, which makes sense to me, more sense than taxing people who don't drive on them.
Some people rarely use the internet. Some people use it alot. Also, free internet IS ALREADY AVAILABLE at public libraries which are paid for by taxes.
Not sure how you got this sentence out of my post "But to say publicly funded internet is dangerous, soley because we would be unable to find a stopping point, is ludicrous. ."
That's a completely different argument; it may be true in fact, but I did not make that statement.

The first part of freedom is free, the second part is dom.
who's dom?
Could be to do with this news headline...............
Pranksters order £100 worth of Domino's pizzas to Aberdeen councillor's door

hahaha! that's excellent. He should have distributed the pizza to potential voters and made a big thing out of it. That would have won him some votes for only 100 sovereigns (don't know how to create that symbol)

My understanding is that this "free" refers to uncensored internet.
However, if the debate is that is at no cost, I beg to differ, it has a cost, a small one too. The technology that allows it has been well amortized, not to speak about the telephonic cable that carries it. I gladly pay a little extra in the phone bill for it.
Coming back to the topic, I think that the internet has a lot to do with the radio, it will remain free to use and broadcast

You could always make a one-time purchase for a laptop or tablet and then park next to a wifi hotspot like McDonalds or Starbucks... Then voila! Free internet!

No. But you did imply that free internet would result in Americans not wanting to ever work again. Which struck me as a sizeable leap. Not sure how A got to B, there.

Specifically how did I imply that free internet would result in Americans not wanting to ever work again.
Somebody has to pay for everything. Which means somebody has to work. How do you decide that internet is free, while other things must be paid for?? Food and water are more important than the internet. Shelter. etc etc. they all have to be paid for; should they all be free??
Absolutely!
