I used to run in my 20's but stopped because I was always getting injured doing it. Shame that because I enjoyed it and think it helped me focus. Nowadays its just stretching for me. I'm always looking for a good way to get a good workout without having to break my body doing it.
Favorite Exercise Routine
My favorite exercise routine is Wall Pilates—it’s simple, gentle on the joints, and surprisingly effective. I started with beginner workouts like the ones on BetterMe and felt a real difference. If you're just starting, I’d recommend those too—they guide you step by step and help build strength and posture naturally.
I usually start slow with some elbow bends. That leads to some running off at the mouth and dodging responsibilities. After a while I may fly off the handle and run amok. If I'm really feeling it I'll pull an all-nighter and finish up by climbing into bed.
Seriously, I hike, kayak, backpack, and generally just keep busy with hobbies and projects. This summer I get to tear down my old garage.
I like yoga. It is great for both physical and mental health. It helps me stay grounded and flexible, which is especially important now that I'm managing diabetes. Alongside yoga, I’ve started medication, was able to get Mounjaro online recently, and it’s been a big help with blood sugar and weight control.

I am curious as to the exercise habits of the members of Chess.com. Do they
subscribe to the "sound mind sound body" theory or do they mostly avoid physical
exercise.
Now that I am in my 40's I am down to taking daily walks and some light
stretching and calisthenics. I don't even golf or bowl anymore, as the years
have taken a toll on my body.
In my 30's I was into golf and running, I ran some 5K races and even a half-
marathon.
In my college years and my 20's I was into lifting weights and playing softball.
Since I live near Virginia Beach and Nags Head and everyone spends a lot of time
on the beaches staying in shape was imperative, beach volleyball was also a fun
and intense workout.
In the years before college growing up I was a military brat and we just went
out and played after school until dark each day, in fact our moms wouldn't let us
stay indoors back then, and there were no computers or video games yet. We
played football and mostly baseball (basketball wasn't as popular yet) and also two-square, dodgeball, a lot of kickball, and we rode
bikes everywhere. We swam in the summer and had running races and played frisbee, but when the sun set we had to be home.
