Fix a wish

EDIT:  100th post gets trophies!

This is a variant of corrupt a wish.  The idea is that someone makes a bad or corrupt wish, and the next person fixes it and makes it good. Then you make your own bad wish. Here's an example:

I wish none of my friends could ever eat bacon again.

Granted! You save them all from heart attacks.

I wish chess was never discovered.

Granted! A better game is made to replace it.

Here's an example of a similar forum:

https://www.chess.com/forum/view/off-topic/corrupt-a-wish5

I'll start.

I wish every forum topic would get locked.

llama44

Granted, but since chess.com has limited employees, they have to automate it so topics automatically lock themselves after a certain amount of time... resulting in the community creating more varied and interesting topics. When people post, they make the most of it instead of spamming, and so the forums thrive as a vibrant community where no topic or post is uninteresting.

I wish I got sick.

aronian22

Granted, you get coronavirus. You recover quickly and survive without a ventilator. Soon, health officials discover that once you get coronavirus it is very hard to get again. You become a doctor, knowing it is harder for you to get it. You save countless lives.

I wish chess.com would become flooded with bots and cheaters. (At least more than it currently is)

Tja_05

Granted. People complain, and everyone eventually leaves the site, with only the cheaters and bots remaining. Chess.com then creates another chess site for non engine users. Interestingly enough, it is discovered that watching engine users play 1-minute games is very entertaining and informative, so people start to study the games. Now everyone has access to free studying, and Chess.com becomes famous as a site to study comps at fast TCs.

Tja_05

I wish that my friend lost 10 consecutive games.

aronian22

Granted, he loses those games to Hikaru, whose stream he managed to get on to. On the 11th game he beats him, and his rating skyrockets.

I wish there was a power outage that lasted for a year.

Granted.

Aliens who pass by take pity on such an undeveloped species and give us unlimited free power.

(But seriously, no power for a year doesn't sound so bad, other than I suppose tons of people would die, but no power for individuals and still power for industry doesn't even need to be fixed, it would probably be good heh)

aronian22

llama, good job, but you have to make a bad wish after fixing someone else's.

llama44

Oh yeah haha, ok let me think of one.

llama44

I wish time traveling idiots from the future accidentally went back in time and killed the first human.

aronian22

Granted! Due to the grandfather paradox, they die because they were also descended from the first humans. But since if they died the first human would still live, they "wake up" seconds before the event. Both of them become stuck in a Groundhog Day type time loop, except when they kill the first human they are reset to the moment they time traveled back. Until they choose to save the person, they stay in the death loop.

Yeah, I watch a lot of Doctor Who.

I wish that humans had a brain five times less powerful.

llama44

Haha, that's a pretty cool scenario... they're stuck doing it again until they decide to do it differently.

Is that from a movie or did you think it up? Not groundhog day, I know that movie, but in a time travel setting I like it

aronian22

I thought that up, but it was based on something I saw where someone made a decision destroying their universe, but found a way to time travel back before it was destroyed. They kept going back and stopping themselves from doing it, but in every situation they kept doing it. So I guess they were stuck in a voluntary time loop. I don't remember what it was from, but it was probably an episode of the Twilight Zone or something like that.

aronian22

Anyone want to answer mine? If not, I can do a more interesting one.

IcyAvaleigh
Granted, humans brain is less powerful and we were never able to make nuclear and other powerful weapons. We live more in peace now and the number of deaths by violence is very low.

I wish that I lose every game I will ever play for the rest of my life
aronian22

Granted, you play one game as a child against Bobby Fischer. You nearly win, but lose at the end. People are shocked at how somebody who has never played chess before becomes so good after one game. You are sent to a research facility to study the human brain. The scientists discover the secret to telepathy in your brain. Unfortunately, you die in the process, never playing another game of chess.

I wish for the next person to not have a wish

IcyAvaleigh

I die? That is not really like making my wish good 0_o telepathy is nice though and Granted, I will not have a wish right now but the good side of it is no one turns my wish into something worse by accident ^_^

aronian22

The point's that humanity benefits and you live on in their minds (literally, because of the telepathy thing, your mind would exist in the shared mind of the world. So I guess only your physical form dies)

Well I guess since you didn't wish anything it's my turn again.

I wish for global warming to make all the ice in the arctic melt, rising ocean levels to a dangerous point.

IcyAvaleigh

Well my physical form dying is not a good thing in my opinion either 0_o haha and yeah I didn't wish something because that was your wish...

aronian22

Haha, ok fair....
