THis is called 'Word Train' I use it in teaching English.
Never seen 8000+ words though. 
But what you have here is not a challenge. Add the rule that the new word has to be associated with the previous word in some way.

Oh. I just remembered. WHen I play this game with my students,they are not allowed to repeat words.
I suppose that's not possible here unless someone keeps an ongoing list. SOunds like a lot of fun. I'd do it, but without opposable thumbs, I can't hold a writing instrument.
