It's this punk, punk?

Never heard that Patty Smith was Punk or doing Punk music.

This, for an example, is Punk but not Punk Rock:

Joan Jett can be counted as a precursor of Punk Rock

While others, like The Distillers pruduced songs with great style but no meaning

But not only....

Wooo woo wooo. I wanna see BEI's contribution (but weezer is not punk... unless you can tie it to punk)

Here's an anthem...

But I wanna go a bit less mainstream... now that I think of it... probably new wave.

No one can "pew pew" like Nina Hagen (@1:05).

Smack Jack... now thats a good OTFer alias.

This would make a great anthem for OTF...

What's BEI?

Meanwhile in Germany...

@BurgerEatersInc... an OTFer with good music taste (but a bit Weezer-centric). Another OTFer (Blue?) often creates music as well.

Here's my OTFer playlist... it includes the obligatory Ramones. https://www.chess.com/forum/view/off-topic/awesome-songs-for-otf

OTF... Well, that's an other one I see often, Googled it, and still don't get it.

I'm really not so sure The Ramones were any actual punks. It seems to me they surfed on some high school teen protest mood of a sort, without any actual insight of how, not just society, but life itself is such a fraud.

(The bassist girl Clare Mistake from the UK is a good (Internet) friend of mine. She spent lots of time in support when I was at my lowest.)

Here Clare Mistake (aka Noizee) performing solo a Ramones cover:

Sorry... Chess.com's Off-Topic Forum (OTF). It has an "alternative" vibe here.

No sorry needed and thank you.

So, back to The Ramones.

"I don't want to be buried in a pet cemetery" So what? It won't happen. Seriously, this means nothing at all. Some may believe being punk is just being messy, disorderly and loud. Sure they can believe that if they want to. Like I care. Feh.

"I wanna be sedated" Go walk distances to get coins tobacco and beer, you won't need to be sedated anymore cos you'll be so tired you'll pass out on the concrete. Yeah, so the guy wants to be sedated cos he has it all and is so spoiled he can't sleep. Help others with your money instead on spending it all on your pleasure, you'll find sleep for sure.

Etc.

I nearly dislike them.

What makes something Punk or Punk Rock?

Public Image Ltd (PIL) had an interesting interview about being a "company" with many interests and not a band. They predict the death of rock.

Avatar of Kaeldorn

Punk is the spirit, Punk Rock is a music.

Here a punk rock song that is actually punk:

Here a punk rock song that is empty of anything really punk:

Here a punk song that is no punk rock:

Johnny Lydon (aka (Rotten) annoyed the poop out of everybody with his Public Image Limited band and the so annoying song "This is not a love song" I've heard so many times in all places it made me sick. Alas, punk and punk rock were so soon gone from broadcasting.

PIL has been the same musical and mental burden to the soul than John Lennon and Yoko Ono after The Beatles existed no longer. You buy the LP in hope you'll get the vibes again, but no, it's commercial BS music...

Here the hardcore punk rock band The Exploited also exploring the theme "dead cities" which occurs in quite a bunch of punk songs.

On the side note, you may notice how the crowd of non punk people in the video do enjoy the song, evidence that the gross lie punk rock is not good was, well, a gross lie.

Second Wave punks (like 1982 and after) brough a new rage to punk rock with what was then called "Hardcore"

That's more like me when, well, earlier I was only a kid.
