How do people get that good!

I keep trying but it seems that i level out at a rating of 1300-1500. I'm over 70 but that should not excuse. I can't imagine how chess players get to 2000 or even 1800. They must be very gifted.

Well I'm a small child at 17 years young but I'll say the best thing for you to do is like look at classic games, tactics, openings, endings and you'll get to 2000 in about 3 years.

As far as "how do people get that good" Simple, work. Getting to 2000 requires no talent

I see what you are saying, time, work and commitment. Finding pleasure in the game helps too. But I don't think I'll ever reach 2000.

I started late playing chess at 42 and Im 58 and never been much better than I was 16 years ago .

of course I just dink'd at it from work and starting playin 1 0 bec I didnt have much time to play a whole long drawn out game.

My best advice is dont play 1 0 if you want to get better

If you say "i'll never get over 2000" you'll never be over 2000.

As we get older, our minds naturally deteriorate. However, what you can do is to slow the decline rate.

As we are getting older our engines are not allowed the luxury of making the first move nor deciding what we should be playing, they are for entertaining purposes only, testing can be fun but that's as far as it goes.

I have been tring my best at 5/5 games. I make mistakes when I'm down to less then 1 minute. I can tell I'm playing a young mind by the lightning fast responses to my moves. I haven't given up the challange.
