How do you like your own country ?

I guess I give America a 6 or 7 in terms of landscape, but I am not that well travelled, even in my own country.  I am also thankful that there are relatively few natural hazards in the part of the country where I live, ie no volcanoes, earthquakes extremely rare, tsunamis extremely rare, serious droughts rare,  very few venemous organisms, and not many beasts to devour us, although historically there were.

I won't discuss P & R here, but for those of you who can't isolate politics from the question, how about coming over to the open forum discussions (otherwise known as the dark side).  We don't bite and it will keep you from getting on Eric's bad side.

Hard to say, since I've never been outside the country. From what I read/believe though, I think I'd give the US a 7 or so.

U.S. covers so much space that it is sort of like several countries in one, landscape-wise. That said, I would like to check out Canada and Greece a few years, or Finland.

how about changing from imperial to metric like you were supposed to... like everyone else did.

800 lb gorillas get to do whatever they want to do. They might not be right, politically correct or even nice about how they do something, but they will still do it. The machine is too big now to change. Too bad, metric is better. :(

I'd give the United States an 8 out of 10 simply because there is much less poverty than in other countries, and I don't have to worry about where my next meal is coming from as people in many countries do. I'm not saying that nobody in the United States has to worry about where their next meal is coming from and I'm not saying that everyone in other countries has to worry about that either. I'm just saying that the United States is blessed with wealth, and I am fortunate to live in a wealthy country. However, I don't feel that the United States should conflict with everyone's international affairs (I'll stop there, because I want to avoid political debate), and it shouldn't be as greedy. Manifest Destiny is poison. Oil is poison. Money is poison. The United States is very fortunate, but it's poisoning itself by greed. It's like the Poison Pawn Winawer. The United States is white. Money mouth

My country...which is South Africa...will get a 10 from me! (no politics...so I won't think about that when giving it a 10!)
UK, where I'm now... will get a 6...

USA, I say 8, just because we're financially screwed right now, otherwise I love it here.

I'm form New York but I live in Tokyo, Japan and have traveled the world all over. I love the people from so many different countries because they have refreshing manners and interesting cultures, but I still love my country so much because of the ideals of feedom and opportunity. There are many problems with the U.S., but I can honestly say it is the only place I know where they root for the common man to make himself great and actually give him the means to do it.

I love my country. It might be small in geographical size but we are proud to be Irish. I live in the capital city (Dublin) and of course many cities around the world are becoming more similar becuase of globalization but in terms of the feeling you get in each city, i dont think that can totally change for Dublin.

I have been to many countries, mainly Europe and North Africa, and its great to get away from life in Ireland but its always great to get home and smell those guinness hops! I can sometimes smell them in the morning when i open my hall door. Great way to start the day!

The landscape outside Dublin is beautiful and tranquil in places, full of historical culture and wonderful stories from the past. Unlike many larger countries you can experience city and country life here in Ireland in the same day. Its just a simple drive outside this modern city to go back to relativley untouched landscapes.

On other countries; I am going to travel across Russia on the trans-siberian train this summer and i like Sweden and London is a fantastic city!

If it's just a name and not that important, then why make a big deal about it?

You seriously need to learn more about the U.S. history, foreign relations, and the contributions that we have made in our short lives (U.S. is very young). Since this cannot go political, I can't speak of these things. The U.S. is not as bad as you make it out to be. Nor are we as self-asorbed, greed, ect... Every country must be somewhat selfish, they owe it to the citizens.

I give the U.S. a 9 and quite a few people must agree or we would not have become (and still becoming) the "Melting Pot". We have a diverse landscape, diverse cultures, decent infastructures, great living conditions, good education, good job opportunities, great entertainment, freedom, good military...

Nobody should tell you to leave this country, you are free to express yourself (credit that to living in the U.S.). Just beware that your lack of knowledge is apparent with the post that you wrote....

Well said!

I love my country(Trinidad and Tobago) but I'd say it's about a 2....maybe a 3 simply because of the cultural strong points. Now I live in America and I would give it an 8, because I know what 3rd world means, becasue I would choose the worst American President over the best Prime Minister in Trinidad EVERYDAY, because you can fight and make something of yourself and because I can appreciate the small and big things in life without the corruption of money.

If Puerto Rico were an independent country, i'd give it an 8. But since its part of the U.S, I'd say more like 7. The U.S most certainly is not the best country in the world, but we're near the top. Then again, in my opinion, there is no greatest country to live in.
