I don't think going around india swearing at people is going to get you anywhere

Oh it does! You just don't swear in a language they can understand! And while you do you just smile a lot.

I was going to start a new topic, but what I had in mind was somewhat related to this, so I'll just hi-jack this thread.  Or... just borrow it for a post.

I know it's been said a lot how great it is to play people all over the world. I agree... but I also think it's great that we have these forums to share chess ideas (and a few non-chess related ideas as well).

The thought had occurred to me before, but it hit me pretty strong today... many of the people I play and converse with speak english as a second.. third or sometimes fourth language. That is very cool.

Just wanted to say thanks for people who compose their thoughts as best they can in a foreign language.

And if anybody wants to learn how to swear in english... you can come golfing with me.

Trust me... I'm not actually talking about YOUR mother.

I taught my wife to swear in Russian :) She shared this knowledge with her russian friends. They asked her to stop in the middle and asked her "How is it possible for such a cute girl to swear so vulgar?!"

.... I have no idea.. Innocent .. really!

Español (Argentina - Colombia),
English (very fluent),
Português (somewhat fluent),
French - enough as to count up to 89, and to sing some songs (though not to understand all of the lyrics).
And I can say the equivalent for "good morning" in some other languages. Not a big deal, I guess, but at least I won't be taken for a rude guy  Smile.

I Just hope the characters will show correctly...

Is Chinese a hard language to learn? Im a bit suprised  alot of people seem to know it even when it doesn´t seem to be their first language.

Chinese takes a lot of determination....You have to memorize All of the characters....but I just chip at it one at a time....

I can speak 1.5 languages. I am a native english speaker, and I know enough spanish to get by and chat a bit with others.

English, enough to get by in German and enough to say "Bonjour Le Tortue Noire. Ca Va?" in French. Not a particullary useful phrase really. Ah well, it seems the rest of the world has learned English anyway :).

English(native tongue), French (just enough to get by), and I'm learning Italian. I've always wanted to learn sanskrit though.
