I remember a time when people payed Erik just to keep the site up and running... how sad its gotten...

I don't care, he deserve all he gets. Be happy and stop caring about the fine details.

I also believe it's quite rude to ask someone how much they make. If some stranger came up to you and asked how much you made, would you tell them? Not likely.

Anybody familiar with that Dylan story?  The one where he's playing guitar in a chess playing coffee house?  When he's had enough, he goes to the man and asks for his money.

The man replies, "We don't pay in money around here."

Dylan, "What do you pay with then?"

The man, "We pay in chessmen."

Dylan, "Well, give me my chessmen, then."

The man hands Dylan a king and a queen, which he takes to the nearest bar.  He calls to the bartender, "Bartender, give me a beer."

When the bartender arrives with a frosty mug, he sits it in front of Dylan and Dylan hands him his queen.  The bartender takes the queen, turns to the cash register, rummages around, turns back to Dylan and gives him his change:  a knight and two pawns.

no offense intended but perhaps,  "how much does Erik make in a day"  would be more appropriate use,  or "how much money does Erik make daily".... Also it cost money for Erik and his partners (if any) to set up the site.  Also alot of time is involved.  All business ventures involve risk.  Erik may or may not be making a profit; but we all benefit by being able to play chess online and more, because of his efforts...just thinking outloud......

I have no idea what he earns but I do know that I think Hadi_Ati's autobiographical note (who originated this forum topic) is probably the best one I've read yet.

Agreed.  In addition, lest anyone decide to think the worst, Erik has recently made reference to the fact that memberships and advertising barely cover the cost of the servers and bandwidth.  He also (jokingly?) indicated that his wife was patiently waiting for this to become a paying proposition.  Whatever the truth, I don't think Erik is rolling in hundred-dollar bills the way some of you are obviously imagining.
