how much is your bread

so how much is a loaf of bread where you live?  what are the choices?  which do you buy?

i buy 3 wholemeals (green) per week (for my parents as well) at SG$1.65 each while my younger one prefers the high fibre enriched white (blue) at SG$1.25.

no idea where they source these breads from, but they're cheaper than other brands and taste as good or better (except for gardenia's wholemeal).

My loaf of pumpernickle cost $4.59;)

bunicula

was reminded of the scarlet pumpernickel ;-)

US$4.59 is quite a lot.  Does it last a week?

This is SG$4.75 in Cold Storage, a more expensive chain.

trysts

Yes, it lasts about a week and it is darn expensive, but everything is pretty expensive at the store I go to. Lots of fresh baked, organic, vegetarian stuff. Are you related to bugs bunny?

bunicula

distant cousin, late births etc ... anyway he kicked me out of his home if u were following huey's thread ... so i don't like to talk about him anymore.  guess who messes up his burrowing maps at albuqurque?

Haha! Post #43:)

Oh wow, I was the one that asked and I missed this!

We get two kinds of bread. The first is the typical long, square-ish loaf that I can usually find for $2.50.

The second kind--and my preferred one--is the broader, shorter, denser loaves. It just feels like more of a meal with that kind, and less of an ingredient holder. We go with Arnold or PEpperidge Farm, and I usually find them on sale for $3, though it retails for $4. My favorite is Oatnut. Apparently Arnold is branded as Brownberry elsewhere in the world?

All prices US Dollars.

my kids & i always pick honey oatmeal when (rarely) we're at subway - only the older one is a fan.  i'm sure i could find it in the upmarket stores but i didn't want the kids to develop an expensive taste at home ;-)

More reason to prefer the other stuff. Thanks for pointing that out, though; I'll need to give an honest look to everything in the breads--something I don't do enough.

I did notice something about the article that makes me want to give it a closer look, too--at least to verify the sources and read more about why certain ingredients are bad: "For decades, chlorine has been added to our public drinking water and swimming pools, table salt, and is even found in certain food products (sucralose, for example)."

But yeah, I don't dispute that a lot of the food industry here is kind of horrifying.

You know what's really good? French toast made with homemade banana bread.

Haha! So only one of them likes Subway? I could... probably eat there every day, given the opportunity!

being asians, we're not really a bread culture. we have rice & noodles more.  bread is typically for quick breakfasts, or when u're unwell or don't have an apetite ;-)

BlargDragon

Oh! That makes sense!

Now I want noodles.
