Actually quite tired of hearing this.
Perhaps when discussions are diverted for unintelligent and gut reflex chit chat and self promotion the noise level drives away meaningful contributors. And the remaining kids have short attention spans anyway.
Just like normal conversations, topics can go into lull periods and then get revived again. Silence is a totally acceptable alternative when one does not really have anything meaningful or relevant to say.
