Losing can make me so angry at times, how do i combat this?
Take up a different hobby. Seriously, if you get angry because you lose at a board game, how do you cope with normal life ?

I'm just competitive, I'm not really ever angry in real life but chess makes me go ARGHH lol .. i just hate losing, i think im destined to be the greatest of all time due to my desire of not wanting to lose...
Play more and as you win and lose, it will get easier. You will never like losing, though. Just remember the process will make you a better player, eventually. ;)
Hey, Im new to the game of chess :). Why does losing make you angry? Isnt it nice when your opponent is happy about winning?
Some of us are simply born to feed on the rage and frustration of others.
It's all a trick.
You win and you're happy.
You lose and you get mad.
That's how you get sucked into the game.
Looking for the smile and avoiding the frown.
If there was no emotional gain, there would also not be its opposite.
So if we got no buzz from winning, we would probably not play at all unless for big prize money.
It's the cycle of addiction.

You are not alone brother. I am OK losing 2-3 games in a row but when the frustration kicks in often I try to ignore it and play on. This usually means I'm then playing without the necessary objectivity to make the crucial decisions needed. So .. I lose more.
My chess cycle seems to be slowly creep up my rating .. then have a catastrophic crash lol. I need to learn to STOP when I lose maybe 3 in a row, accept the losses no matter how close the games (or due to a blunder) and not lose objectivity.
Like any pursuit its frustrating to lose and I find almost nothing can be as psychologically painfull as losing a close chess match even at the low level almost all of us play at.
Keep going and keep learning but always recognise when you have to stop and take a break!! :)
If losing one game makes you angry then maybe harden up .. to be good at chess you have to be excellent at losing!! :P

Its only a game. Treat it as such. Life is going to be full of "losses" You cant get angry at each one. One of the best ways to learn in chess, just as in life, is to learn from your losses.

It's OK to get annoyed and even upset when you lose. Don't listen to this "It's just a game." crap. If it was just a game, Carlsen and other masters would not be making millions off of playing the game.
Any competition is full of emotion.
The fact that that you have an emotion when you lose only shows that you have an interest in accomplishing something at chess. Not that you take it too seriously. Nobody has the right to tell you you are taking something too seriously. It's your choice what you take seriously and what you don't.
Now, about the getting upset. I used to get quite upset too when I lost games. Especially when I really felt I had the game won and ended up losing. Even now, I get a little annoyed sometimes. However, there is a solution.
Any shrink will tell you this about getting angry; Getting angry is normal and natural. What counts is what you do with it. If you go about beating up on yourself because of it, then you will never find a way to get past the anger.
No, you have to do something constructive with it.
Spend that energy going over the game. Even if you lost because you hung your queen. Set-up the position. Find a better move you could have made. CC Games let you load them into the analysis window. So it is easy to set-up and go over a position.
To use a pop-pshychology term, this will give you closure and you can move past the anger.
A puppy might be a good idea too.
So long as you don't kick it when you lose at chess.
