Does sparing help prepare for real world encounters?
Depends on the encounter. It helps with applying fighting techniques with aliveness but at the same time could give wrong atitude: how often is it valid to run away the first thing you do in sparring opposed to doing same thing in real life?!

I don’t recommend running away, unless it is the only choice. Stand your ground. Yell FIRE at the top of your lungs. HELP is often ignored, but everyone runs to a fire. Never turn your back on an assailant. Preparation makes it much less likely that running is the only choice. It’s better to fight to the death where you are. Never go with an assailant. Bite, load your pants, poke eyes, do whatever it takes to do the most damage possible and to make yourself less attractive.
If a person is attacked and let’s the assailant go, if they do not do everything within their power to stop the assailant, if they fail to train in self defense and instead rely on others to do it for them, they are personally responsible for every crime the assailant commits in the future. Self protection and the protection of the community are squarely on the individual. Yes, there are always going to be vulnerable people who need our protection, and being trained in self defense is the responsibility of every able bodied person.
Imagine a society where criminals have no victims?
Unfortunately, holding down the criminal in civil arrest is somewhat questionable in Sweden. You have a right to do it but you could be in the wrong.
Also, if the person is attacking you with weapons and you don't have any, it is better to avoid the situation or give what they want instead of trying to act like a hero. A knife is much more dangerous than most "self defence" martial arts will teach you. But then again, the could stab you in the back or after getting the items. Therefore situational awarness and avoidance of bad places at a bad time is to prefere.

Hello!
Just 2 question.
(30 secondas reading.)
1. Can you please tell me why my tablet, IOS 5.1 can't acess this site?
I can't access chess.com with my tablet. It returns an unknown error. I can access it with Android and Windows 10, however.
2. Is there a way to avoid chessboard error when I move pieces?
Many times I try to move the queen and it does not move corretly, to the square I wish and I lost it due of it.
I just broke 2000 in puzzles!!! I’m memorializing this moment in a few threads. WoooooHoooooo!!!! A 55 year old guy with a neurodegenerative disease and brain damage, and I accomplished it in 13 months. If I can do it, anyone can do it.
Congrats, strongly done off you!
Now, on to the topic.
First, I agree about the wallet and contacting the police. I would say that you should contact police in all cases when something happens or when you suspect something bad is going on instead of just walking away.
Second, we do have a right for self defence in Sweden as well as some civic arrest but mild pepper spray is the highest level of weapon unless you want to go with "... but officer, I was just going hunting and had this double barreled shotgun in my backpocket".
Lastly, about being ready after 3 years @ 2-3 times a week training: no, just no. Maybe if you are in law inforcement or anything like that or if you had good luck of having a great club with both hard, alive sparring and serious self defence training. But if we are talking about random civilian training aikido or any other kind of bullshido for that amount of time... well, I remember how good we were after 3 years of training and the difference between knife defence at dojo hours and when we had free practice. Learning how to defend against stiff, zombie-like, non resisten attacker who stops as soon as knife attack is done and then later reharsing same type of patterns only faster gives you very little help. After just taking the rubber knifes and going freestyle with them, most of the times we were "cut". And unfortunately, a lot of clubs will not speak much about how dangerous the knife is and how easy it is to suddenly be bloody and unable to grab anything, much less kote geshi a knife arm.
