Artist (digital) draws a lamp

First, I open a new layer. I make a very rough sketch, very rough. I look at the lamp and break it down into several key shapes: a prism, a cone, a line and a sphere. I like to make each shape a different color so I don’t confuse them later on.

Anyways, once this is done, I refine the sketch. I add the little details that make it actually be a lamp. Again, I use different colors to avoid confusion.

Next, I open another layer, turn down the opacity of the sketch layer for better visibility, and I ink — that is to say, draw an outline — over the sketch.

Once the outline is done, I open another layer beneath the inking one and I begin to color. I personally like to use colors of about the same hue, and usually I use pastels!

Anyways, once that’s done, I sign my work.

And finally, after an hour of hard work, I’m ready to show this to everyone!

AI bro (poopy) (stinky) (unemployed) (allergic to showers) makes an image of a lamp

First, I open DALL-E. This is my favorite software for image generation.

I then type in the prompt “drawing of lamp”, and hit Enter.

I wait for one long minute, but finally, I’m presented with various images, all of which I download.

And finally, after two minutes of hard work, I’m ready to show this to everyone!

What must be remembered is that AI takes inspiration/builds on existing artwork much like any other human made art. Sure generative AI makes art in general less valuable and time consuming. But that is really the point. When someone wants to depict something, they can use AI without having to draw it themselves or pay someone else to do it. Anyway, generative AI will never make artists obsolete. All generative AI works by use of other artworks which already exist. Therefore more artwork must be made by humans for the continued maintenance of generative AI

This is why I prefer in-person art and drawings. They're purer and can't be faked by AI like digital drawings can.

But like the post above me said, art and artists will not become obsolete if people continue creating art. AI doesn't quite have a mind of its own and has to pull from existing drawings to create its own.

i don't really have an opinion on ai, but i feel like the more that people hate ai, the less it's gonna be used by people since people will support it less and stop using it.

AI doesn’t take inspiration, though.

Looking at an image of something is not all it takes to draw inspiration from it: humans apply their experiences, knowledge and make artistic decisions, which AI can’t.

But I like to color ;-;

I’m really picky with colors, so maybe that’s why it takes me so long to draw something so basic…

I usually take like 15 minutes on digital art, though I'm not exactly very good at drawing

Refusing to use one of the most advanced technologies the world currently has to offer (which is going to improve) seems like a poor choice.
