I Just Realized...

That kids have no idea how forums work. They think it's some anachronistic form of a live chat. A chat like you might see on Twitch, Discord, or etc.

So it's not because they're dumb or trolls... but they just have no experience with... reading or writing something meaningful. If you took the time to do that in a live chat you'd miss 50 messages and no one would read what you wrote.

On a forum, you take the time to write something worth reading, because a day, or a week later someone might actually read it.

It might seem like I'm taking a cheap shot, or this is obvious, but I just now figured it out heh.

llama47

So... if the forums are supposed to be a childish chatroom, just get rid of the forums and replace them with an actual live chat.

If the forums are supposed to be worth reading, maybe redirect people in forums that are being used this way to an actual live chat.

(Or more likely do nothing and have the worst of both worlds, but a guy can dream can't he?)

Ziryab

You are correct.

GChess

Once again I find myself agreeing with said Llama.

Ziryab

Most of them are culturally illiterate, too.

Whatever happened to reading?

Wait, so you mean to tell me forums are for things other than socializing? This is terrible, simply terrible. I'm not sure what to think now, my whole life is a lie. I was under the impression that one word posts were all the rage here, but now you have shattered my entire worldview. This is all your fault. I'm going to now make a forum about how I am closing my account because of you !2111!1!!

I used to read, but then I finished all the books I have in my household, including the ones such as "home buying for dummies" (I don't remember anything from that book in case you were wondering).

So now I just read chess books because those are the only ones I can't wrap my head around.

Socialization of mentally deficient kids is an eyesore.

One of the funniest things is seeing young and mid age teens, with IQs apparently above 50, making topics complaining about how ridiculous some of these people are. They think they're making an actual point, but what's actually happening is they're outgrowing something they would have found entertaining a year ago.

sndeww

Well, you aren't wrong. A year ago they were funny to me.

Ziryab

I posted in this thread this morning, then could not find it again. The description of children chatting with no substantive engagement in posts perfectly describes what I have been observing in a private discussion club that I joined a few weeks ago. A half dozen children account for the vast majority of the posts there, and rarely do they offer more than a single line reply. In many cases, the single line does no more than verify they either did not read or do not understand what they are responding to. I suspect the former. Their main point seems to be to keep a quarrel going without ever permitting it to rise to the level of argument. Time spent putting forth a credible argument is wasted, because half an hour after you post, there are three more pages of fluff that have washed your argument into oblivion.

sndeww

@ziryab to be honest, it is difficult to take any argument seriously on a chess website. But then again, if they don't have anything to contribute, they could leave...

Audio books are different in the sense of the absence of the viewing of the written word.

JackRoach

I wholeheartedly agree with you.

Nothing I write is worth reading, but at least I don't have bad grammurrszz

JackRoach

The great thing about the internet is that you can be whatever you want, whoever you want, and no one will ever know.

But most kids you can tell are kids. Am I a kid? Yes. I just take my time writing and my grammar is good, so no one knows if I am or not.

No, you're a kid because you have a chess position as your profile picture. Most adults do not have a certain chess position as their profile picture.

And your anime profile picture says that you are a lonely teenager... See? It works!

wait, stop exposing me.
