If it was a very short game (i.e. less than 4 moves), it may have been considered too short to count towards ratings AND may have been deleted from the records.
Oh. That was it.

You're too kind! I never knew there was a trophy for giving a speculative answer to a question about games disappearing. Well - you live and learn!
This has happened to me before. I was playing against a very good friend of mine in online chess. I went to make a move the following day and the game had dissapeared. My mate reckons that he won the game via checkmate and that it is his greatest victory over me. There is however no record of this game.
I'm just a nice person.
Is it like that in tournaments?
