Zero is considered to be both a real and an imaginary number. As we know, imaginary numbers are the square root of non-positive real numbers.
If infinity Is NOT A Number...As You All Claim!?
Then how come if 1 is a real number and 0 is a real number; The two very most important numbers in Mathematics;
Then Why is
The Absolute Value of (1/0)=[1/0] Really Infinity!
And Negative 1, times The Absolute Value of (1/0)=-[1/0] is Negative Infinity??!
0 isn't a real number. It's just that often, mathematicians pretend it is because it helps them to see everything in a nice and orderly manner, instead of all real and confusing like things really are. Infinity isn't a number at all but an abstract concept.
Elroch thinks that mathematicians rule the universe. I think that the universe rules mathematicians. I've been in an argument with @Elroch about infinity. He's a mathematician and mathematicians can use abstract concepts as mathematical tools without any necessity to understand that concept philosophically or whatever.
Your 1st paragraph is totally wrong. And I don't care who your "Elroch" is.
Please link to any certificied Mathematician that says 0 ain't a real number.
Elroch is an expert in statistics and he claims to specialise in mathematical analysis. He has an MMath, which is a master's degree. My son also has an MMath but he also has a PhD in quantum physics. Quantum physics is basically Applied Mathematics.
Unfortunately, although Applied Mathematicians are the real mathematicians, they aren't normally interested in these things, which are in the domain of pure mathematicians. A pure mathematician is maybe the philosopher of maths and my subject IS philosophy. I could ask my son what he thinks I suppose. He's currently working as a pipeline engineer. He probably wouldn't have the faintest idea and he IS a mathematician.
My impression is that just because mathematicians like things all neat and tidy, it can't actually make any possible difference to anything if 0 is defined as a number or as an abstract concept of nothingness, which is what it really is. The maths will work just the same because maths is a tool and within maths, individual concepts are parts of that tool. If the tool works, it works. It doesn't have to be coloured green or blue and nor does it have to be defined as a number or as not a number. It works just the same either way.
It's also my opinion that mathematicians can be pretentious.
