Plus, I'm happy where I'm at. A castle does sound cool though. It has a certain flair to it in fantasy, romance and history...but I feel like living in a castle in real life would just be too stressful with outrageous taxes and insane heating bills. You know how the house takes a long time to heat because it is a little big...but a castle would take forever; sounds like it would be kind of cold.

Plus, if you hear a random sound late at night: then the natural thing is to get up and investigate. Was it the furnace or a burglar? Good luck searching your castle of many rooms though; if you hear a sound then it would just spook me. 

You have a point! I am trying to think of a way to get the advantages of a castle without having taxes etc. You would have to live in it to minimize the spook factor but then you run into the heating issue... Live near and no one lives in and that spook factor jumps but heating is not an issue...  But a castle does sound fun to explore!

I would like to live in a log cabin out in the woods about 10 minutes from a small town. The woods have bike paths crisscrossing all over and there is a creek within earshot of the cabin. All my friends and relatives live in the town and we visit often. A little beyond the town there is a big lake for boating.    That's what I like!

Yes, a castle does seem super fun to explore - especially if it has secret passages and "fake doors."

Your log cabin near town sounds like a nice place though. Actually, my dad used to spend his childhood summers in a place just like what you describe and even was near a lake

I would live closer to the coast.  I love the ocean.  It is so beautiful there, and full of power you can never find anywhere else.
