Tomorrow one of the Lotteries in Canada will be giving away $55 Million Dollars, not exactly Powerball type cash but still  nothing to sneeze at. What would you do if you won that kind of a prize ? Smile

I'd buy you a southern refuge...would you like one during winter?

Pizza, beer, and tacos.

Thank You Sir ! You are very kind as I certainly could use a warm refuge during the cold winters.

I would probably buy a couple of pinball machines too.

... I would focus 12 hours a day on chess and only chess 6 days a week until I get good enough to play higher rated players...

Thanks for the recent posts.

This thread was prompted by a bit of a sad story. It concerned this woman who won nearly $10.6 Million Dollars about 12 years ago ( in Ontario, Canada ). She is now out of money and has had to go back to work. Also she no longer owns a house and is living in rent ( quite a comedown from being a Millionaire ).

If I ever won that amount of money I would treat a lot of people. I would also help animal charities & maybe start a rescue centre. I love animals. ;)

Carlsen: Hallo?

Ubik42: Good news for you, I just won the lottery! I want some chess lessons, and I am ready to shell out the big bucks!

Carlsen: Sorry, can you say again...

Ubik42: I was thinking....are you sitting down for this?....I was thinking maybe $45 an hour!

Carlsen: Are you my modeling agent?

Ubik42: What? Your accent throws me a bit. Anyway, lets get started. So...um....how should I open? 1.e4 or 1.d4?

Carlsen: Hallo?

Thanks for the posts.

Well the big Lottery draw has come and gone. They sold more tickets than they had expected and the prize went up to over $60 Million ( tax free BTW ). There were 4 winning tickets so they ended up with $15 Million and change for each winner ( nope I did not win Cry ), ( maybe next time ).

Unfortunately, I do not consider this a sad story. I consider it the story of an idiot. This happens SO OFTEN to big winners who have never had money in their lives before, and they operate under the illusion that 10 million dollars is an almost infinite amount of cash. Then they go on wild spending sprees, run out of the funds in a few years, and wonder what happened. Going to a bank and asking advice would have been an excellent first step, for even the most inexperienced investor, in protecting the money for life.

So, the moral is, if anyone here happens to win it, give it all to me and I'll make sure you don't blow it.

Trust me.

AlCzervik: Very nice of you to offer your services. Wink

MSteen: You make some very good points. I do feel sorry for that person tho, perhaps it is the sad story of an idiot ( I mean losing $ 10 million is quite sad ).
