I always knew you were a 60's hippy. I hope the van worked well enough to get you to Woodstock on time.

--- Well I did wear bell-bottom pants many years ago and I had an aversion to formal attire ( had no Suit for quite a few years ). However things do change over time.

I gather that the $ 425 million dollar Powerball prize has been won by someone in California ( must be a bit of a shock that  lol ).

So this morning I hear this item on the news from the state of Texas and a question came to mind. What do you call someone who has won $ 12 million on the lottery but does not claim the prize ? Perhaps the person is very very very stupid ??? Anyway they said that if the prize is not claimed today the winner has lost the money, period.

Here in Canada we have a smaller population and so our lottery prizes do not reach the level of the USA Powerball lotteries, mind you we do not have to pay any taxes on the money that we might win. Back in December we had a Lotto Max prize reach $ 50 million ( about $ 45 million in US funds ). Nobody claimed the prize for a while but up here they have 1 year to get the money. Then a few days ago a middle-aged couple in Edmonton Alberta came forward to claim the prize, they had kept things secret for 7 months which is quite remarkable. I think that I would be a nervous wreck right from the day of the draw  lol.

--- I just read some info on the couple that won the $ 50 million. A strange thing that they said was that they plan to keep their lives as normal as possible. So if they don't want to splurge a bit and have some fun what is the point of buying the Ticket ? I mean why not just keep working their regular jobs and forget about getting any money from the lotteries ?

For those of us north of the 49th, tonight we are having a draw for Lotto-Max. The prize has been carried over for a couple of weeks and is now worth $ 50 million clams ( plus two extra prizes of $ 1 million each ). Old cabby didn't get around to buying a ticket --- you snooze you lose  lol.

Sometimes a dog can be a great friend for a family. Recently a couple here in Canada had this dog that made a little accident on their carpet. So these folks went out to rent a rug-shampoo machine and while they were away from the house they also bought a lottery ticket. And now thanks in part to the dog's " mishap " they have won $ 14.5 million dollars ( about $ 11 million in US funds, tax free ). I imagine that they will be taking very good care of that dog of theirs  lol.

Tomorrow one of the Lotteries in Canada will be giving away $55 Million Dollars, not exactly Powerball type cash but still  nothing to sneeze at. What would you do if you won that kind of a prize ? Smile

I would play in chess tournaments from all over the world, buy top quality chess books, boards, clocks and would buy a diamond chess.com membership and the rest I will invest in a bank.

Thanks for the post Shine5. You have some very good ideas there.

So are you in the draw ? I hear that the Powerball lottery in the USA is now worth $ 1.5 Billion Dollars, quite a tidy sum that  lol.

Thanks for the new posts. One of the fun parts of listening to AM Radio is to get the long-distance signals that travel so well after it gets dark ( those big-bounces ). Early this morning I was able to latch onto a station from Idaho and got the news about the Powerball Lottery. Bad news for anyone that wanted to win the entire jackpot as it turns that there were 3 winning tickets. Mind you 1/2 of a Billion Dollars for each winner is a nice tidy " little " prize  lol.

Thanks for the post UseWithCare.   ---   Well those people not living in California, Florida or Tennessee are off the list of possible prize winners as those 3 states are where the winning tickets were sold.

I read a story years ago of a person that won a tremendous amount of moolah. (S)he started a company, hired an attorney, and the attorney was the representative that collected the winnings on behalf of the company.

Therefore, the story read, the person could retain their anonymity.

Thanks for the post AlCzervik, I had not heard about that case before.

Well it seems that someone out in California is asleep at the switch. There is a $ 63 million dollar prize that needs to be claimed by Friday or time will have expired. Boy that would get a person uspet, to have lost the winning ticket perhaps ?

So did You go out to buy milk recently ? It seems that a lady in Edmonton Alberta needed to dash out to get some milk a few months back and while she was at the store also bought a lottery ticket as well. That idea was worth $ 20.9 million ( about $ 17 million US and tax free up here btw   lol ). Next time you run off to the store for a small item or two, buy a lottery ticket because you never know.
