Impossible riddle!
mike is a girl and sally is a boy? so 3 girls in family (including mom )
Sally’s f:m sibling ratio is 2:1
(1) m - 1 = f
(2) f - 1 = 2m
Substitute f = m -1 into (1)
(m - 1) - 1 = 2m
m - 2 = 2m
m = -2
Substitute m = -2 into (1)
-2 - 1 = f = -3
There are -3 female members out of all of the siblings.
I got the same thing, that doesn't make sense though. Are you sure you worded the question correctly? I looked it up online and found a similar riddle: https://www.brainbashers.com/showpuzzles.asp?puzzle=ZHNZ. The way it was phrased was:
Daniel has the same number of brothers as sisters.
His sister, Laura, has twice as many brothers as she has sisters.
How many boys and girls are in the family?
From that you get, where B and S are the total number of brothers and sisters:
B - 1 = S
B = 2(S - 1)
--> B = 2(B - 2) = 2B - 4 --> B = 4, S = 3.
This makes sense.
