Is it just me or do people not know what jokes are?

I mean come on, half of the people on here don't know what a joke is.
Lol, now THAT’S funny.

an example of a joke: my entire life
It's not a very funny one
of course, because im bad at everything, including making jokes.
Why do you try and bully yourself so hard.

Ok but seriously whenever I try to make a joke there are always people who go like "oh my god that's so rude that's so dumb, stop you're a troll"

so other people dont have to
Ah, well I must say, thank you for doing it for me!

that moment when you get bullied so hard that you end up doing it for everyone who is bullying you...
One thing Asimov wrote (probably not original to him) is that with the exception of puns almost every joke has an element of cruelty or ridicule (some are self-cruelty or self-ridicule). Enough of society has become extremely sensitive to cruelty and ridicule that it has reached the point where almost every joke will have somebody that feels offended by it and considers it bullying. For instance, about the only way to try to tell an ethnic joke is to use a completely made up ethnic group and even then if the group has a name that is vaguely similar to another group you might end up being accused of attacking that vaguely-similar-named group. In person you can judge your audience to see if they are amenable to such joking. On-line stick to puns if you want to be safe, or to clearly unrealistic exaggerations if you to take some risks (knowing that even the most unrealistic exaggeration will still be taken seriously by somebody).
PS even wordplay puns like "the tired creature stumbled, falling against the screen door and straining itself" can have people ignoring the multiple meanings of the word straining while claiming it is an attack on whatever you substitute for creature.

It's just you.
This was the height of your comic career. If you had a day job, there might have been something more to say.
