A friend of mine introduced me to this site (which is awesome by the way) I'm very much a novice I've had two matches first of which I won (beginners luck ?wink.png) during the second match about 6 moves in I took opponents Queen and he/she just quit the game surprise.png

Is this just one of those things that unfortunately happens when someone gets the humpangry.png or is it noted by the site?

More curious than anything happy.png

Many thanks

Yes, it is normal, especially with beginners. They are supposed to resign.

If they just closed the browser, it is noted.

It's a normal thing in every level of chess because if you lose the queen for inadequate compensation (like a bishop in your game) then your chances of saving the game are very slim. Having said that, I would suggest that as a self-proclaimed novice you never resign, certainly not if you just lose a piece or 2 anyway. Firstly, your opponents are also not so strong and so they may make mistakes which let you come back. Secondly, if they are strong enough to convert a material advantage to a win against you then you can learn from how they have done it. And every time you are checkmated you will see a checkmating pattern which you may be able to use yourself in the future. All the best in your chess journey 👍
