I believe that there are common threads to the Casey Anthony and Foxy Knox trials. In each case, the prosecution sought conviction with very little evidence of how and why the actual death occurred. The factfinders were asked to fill in the blanks and convict, because each Defendant was a very unsavory character who reacted bizzarely after the death.
In the Knox case, I believe the anti-American sentiment coupled with the distasteful Defendant led to conviction. In the Anthony case, the jury avoided all of the anti-Defendant sentiment and held the prosecution to its burden of proof. She was acquitted. The cases were similar with opposite results.
These cases signal an alarming course where pre-trial media sensation pollutes jury pools and causes verdicts to be rendered on speculation rather than proof. The Anthony case should signal prosecutors to be certain they have actual proof beyond a reasonable doubt as to how the crime was committed, rather than believing that media condemnation of an unsavory character will yield a conviction.
The Anthony Prosecutor insisted that the child was chloroformed and suffocated by duct tape. His only evidence - chloroform research on a computer and duct tape found by the remains. Hardly conclusive evidence as tocause of death.
Fueled by media condemnation, the over-confident (laughing during summation) prosecutor fell flat on his face and a likely guilty Defendant walked. When all is said and done, the same result may come in a Foxy Knox retrial.
Often feel chess players, especially the higher ranking ones, look at events more methodically then non chess players! There has been some interesting events lately, particularly the Casey child murder case, compared to the girl in Italy, killed room mate. Once you can cast your emotions aside and look at it as a chess puzzle so to speak.
The girl in Italy think her last name is, Knox, her demeanor through out her trail, at least what I saw, looked up beat, and was well dressed, no tears looked very attractive. While in the Casey trail, she looked very fearful, teary eyed, poorly dressed. I just wonder if this may have effected two different decisions in both cases? That lawyer for Casey, he is very good, just wonder if he coached his client how he wanted her to appear in court, always with a tissue teary eyed, sorrowful and above all remorseful looking. I feel it would be to her benefit, (Casey) to do some jail time for the lesser charges because there are alot of people that feel she should be punished. I realze there is so much more involved that lead up to the final decision, but this chess player thought about this. Any thoughts?
