I'm surprised chesscom hasn't locked this yet, anyways I don't know what you want an online chess website to do about this, it's not like Putin is gonna retreat once he realizes he can no longer play internet chess anymore.

Its not about one chess site.  Its about the free world coming together in unity,  against the closest we've ever been to the destruction that HItler caused, in our lifetimes.  Contrary to what some believe,  This is not an exaggeration.   What is more surprising is that WWIII has not started already.  None of must might be playing on chess.com in the future.

This is exactly right. It's not about what one person, one company, or one country does to punish Russia and it's citizens. It's about what is collectively done. Everyone agrees the leader of Russia doesn't care about what an internet chess site does. That's not the point.

The point is does this internet chess site join the growing number of people, companies, and countries in sanctioning Russia?

I personally don't believe Russia will stop until it gets something close to what it originally intended, and that intended something is security that it's former territory doesn't get too western. It seems to me Ukraine has a lot more in common with Russia (through culture, customs, people, traditions, lifestyle, leadership, etc) than most western countries.

So the risk is while chess.com might have it's way in making sure they support Ukraine, continue to support Russia by providing services, and ban discussions about it they don't like, WW3 and nuclear destruction might make that victory seem a bit hollow.

1) Tell me only one.. one single racional reason why should cc ban russian people.
The only thing what you said so far is that cc should bann them because other companies do it too... its not a reason its an empty gesture... For big companies what are economicaly involved it makes sence not so like for cc. This chess site is not anyhow conected with the army, it has absolute zero economic impacts. But it has some value as a social site where people can get at least a bit of info about war. Its platform where people can have friends across the countries and chat with them.
2) Talking about nuclear war doesnt make sence. Its ridiculous even compering something with that because if that happened half of the world would be doomed anyway... would your soul then find a peace if you knew that at least those evil Russians coudn't play chess online last year or like whats the point?

I did not say chess.com should ban Russian people. I said it's hypocritical to claim Ukrainian support and at the same time support Russia by providing services and accommodating.

Just like it's hypocritical to say chess.com is not the place to be discussing the war, and at the same time, say it's a social network site that should provide information and discussion so that Russians can get more reliable input. Which is it?

As far as reasons chess.com should ban Russians, if I were in favor of that it would be for the same reasons any other person, company, and country are doing it. There is growing resistance to what Russia is doing, and continuing support of Russia it's not a good look. There are much bigger companies than chess.com that have curtailed or eliminated interaction with Russia and Russian citizens. Even at great expense. They do it because it doesn't look good to continue that support.

ok sorry me that i did misunderstand that.. i felt like you just want to ban them..
Anyway.. Nobody ever said that you cant talk here about war and politics. Only you shouldn't talk here about it on public forums. Thats a difference. There are many clubs where you can do it. Sure people do it even here anyway and if you want to call it hypocriticism then whatever.. but i dont see anything particulary bad about it.
The question what opinion or input it should be. Well simply just any opinion what is new for them. Thats called diversity of views and opinions and its important for democracy. I dont gonna tell you which opinion is the right one, but i really dont think that its the one in Russia TV what has no oficial oposition.
Also people should distinguish between economic support and other support.
Tell me what exactly chess.com suports in Russia? Some spending of free time? Is spending of free time something what could save money any Rusian people? Not at all. If it saved some money you could argument that then the government could take that money and spend it for war but its not that case. Those companies what did you mention and what left Russia are mostly highly involved in the economy, the money or goods from them could matter. But what money or goods you gonna get from cc? None.
Simply what cc suports in Russia are only the Russian people and nothing more and I refuse to look at them as at something evil. They are just normal ordinary people as you or me.
