Ukraine has a GDP less then Detroit.
You guys really think this idiot is a threat to the rest of Europe?
So the aging KGB agent who likes to ride horses shirtless to show what a man he is, who is in charge of the world's largest nuclear arsenal, isn't any threat? Gotcha.
North Korea is run by a chubby guy with a bad haircut and his whiny little sister...are they also no threat?
You just like him because of the resemblance .

with what we can see in Ukraine probably no... but i really don't wanna be in situation when i should find it out...
Its not even about if we would win it or not.. The moment when you lead war in your own country is already the moment of lose for every ordinary people..

But yes there is a resemblance this would not be the first time I’ve been called Putin in real life trust me I was wondering when someone would say it

Back then Putin was trying to consolidate power and was fawning over the west. Maybe you have never heard the soft spoken and reasoned speech about leading Russia into democracy he gave in Germany?
Now he *has* power and is trying not to lose it by playing strong man. He's a dangerous old man with a massive ego and a laughably textbook toxic masculinity/physical inadequacy problem...oh, and a nuclear arsenal that can wipe out the face of the planet many times over.
Arguing that he is isn't dangerous is ridiculous.

3 years ago? Cos life changes... Why were Americans scared of Islamic fundamentalists after 9/11? They still had guns and ieds 3 years before and there were still aeroplanes 3 years before... So why weren't Americans scared then? Because actions shift perceptions...

Why weren’t you terrified 3 years ago?
When he first came into power.
I wasn't terrified then, not terrified now. That's just the narrative you tell yourself...that you're tough and people that disagree with you are terrified. It's a coping mechanism.

I'm surprised chesscom hasn't locked this yet, anyways I don't know what you want an online chess website to do about this, it's not like Putin is gonna retreat once he realizes he can no longer play internet chess anymore.
Its not about one chess site. Its about the free world coming together in unity, against the closest we've ever been to the destruction that HItler caused, in our lifetimes. Contrary to what some believe, This is not an exaggeration. What is more surprising is that WWIII has not started already. None of must might be playing on chess.com in the future.
This is exactly right. It's not about what one person, one company, or one country does to punish Russia and it's citizens. It's about what is collectively done. Everyone agrees the leader of Russia doesn't care about what an internet chess site does. That's not the point.
The point is does this internet chess site join the growing number of people, companies, and countries in sanctioning Russia?
I personally don't believe Russia will stop until it gets something close to what it originally intended, and that intended something is security that it's former territory doesn't get too western. It seems to me Ukraine has a lot more in common with Russia (through culture, customs, people, traditions, lifestyle, leadership, etc) than most western countries.
So the risk is while chess.com might have it's way in making sure they support Ukraine, continue to support Russia by providing services, and ban discussions about it they don't like, WW3 and nuclear destruction might make that victory seem a bit hollow.

1) Tell me only one.. one single racional reason why should cc ban russian people.
The only thing what you said so far is that cc should bann them because other companies do it too... its not a reason its an empty gesture... For big companies what are economicaly involved it makes sence not so like for cc. This chess site is not anyhow conected with the army, it has absolute zero economic impacts. But it has some value as a social site where people can get at least a bit of info about war. Its platform where people can have friends across the countries and chat with them.
2) Talking about nuclear war doesnt make sence. Its ridiculous even compering something with that because if that happened half of the world would be doomed anyway... would your soul then find a peace if you knew that at least those evil Russians coudn't play chess online last year or like whats the point?
you should ban anything starting with "russ" in it. in fact, just ban the letter r and double s's in any word, right?
Amazing how this thread hasn't been locked by now.
@Erik himself has already replied to the OP, and answered his question; there isn't much left to discuss. And I thought discussions about the War were allowed in the general forum...
But yeah, this time around it does look like the west has finally found a war it doesn't like.
