Lessons in life

Hi everyone.

What would you say are the most important lessons you've learnt so far in your life?

For me, the most important is that loved ones in my life matter the most, before hobbies, work, etc. Most of us have relatively few people in our lifetime whom we truly love and who truly love us and we have to cherish them.

I'd say for me it's that beauty brings meaning to our lives. Makes our life worthwhile. And that we'll forever be grateful to those that show us that beauty.

I agree, thank you, Tom.

I think that love is why we exist, that we have to share and express it freely and often.

I'm now waiting for Kayknight to say oh gawd, pass the sick bucket.

Haha. 😝

The irony though is if you meet someone that's so beautiful that you truly love them, if you already love that way then that new person becomes incompatible in your life.

It's heartbreaking but it's true. We all have a need and a desire to be uniquely loved.

Sometimes the thing you want the most is the thing you just can't have. That you can talk to everyone but the person you want to talk to. Be yourself but.

Albert Einstein
A human being is a part of a whole, called by us 'universe', a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

Interesting quote from one of your favourite philosophers, Tom.
Tomlight
Plato said that we can't do anything we know to be truly wrong. Aristotle disagreed.

I've always thought Plato got it right. After all we are all the hero of our own narrative.

We all believe that we are doing the right thing. Always.

quote from Hippocrates !?! (i think i got the wrong philosopher): 'good wife, good life... bad wife, become a philosopher'. that should keep you happy for a while.
LadyJane1
I don't know that we all always believe we are doing the right thing, Tom.
Tomlight
I believe so. We think we are doing the very best we can. But then sometimes we see actually we aren't then we necessarily adjust. We see there is another option.
LadyJane1
Haha, Kay! Have been waiting for you to appear with that, darling! 😝
Tomlight
What's beautiful to me is that true love is forever in your heart and beauty sings in your mind eternally.
LadyJane1
Well said, Tom, and I agree with you.

I've noticed you're so articulate and open in expressing your emotions, philosophical thoughts and opinions in your threads.

I think that takes courage on public forums like these. Some people aren't too kind, are they, Kay!

Life lesson 1

If you go home with someone and they don't have books, don't sleep with them.
