ok here it is before i rust up, ok now my question goes like this, ok if u can bend a fork on a bicycle wheel with ur hands why come u can sit on a bicycle in the seat, (remember all that weight) n not break or bend any of the spokes?

RomyGer

Bending a fork (on a bicycle wheel) has nothing to do with breaking or bending the spokes of that wheel.

The total weight of the bike and the rider is supported by the two hubs in the wheels.    The hub/nave is centered in the middle of the wheel by spokes, which are under a certain tension.

When the vertical pressure on the hub is more than that tension, either the spokes above the hub will break or the wheel itself will be (sidewise) transformed.

The safety marge in designing wheels and spokes is that great that "normally" the wheels stay as they are, also when riding the bike with three or four youngsters on it (did you do that?)

The length of the nave is just enough to ensure the sidewise stability of the wheel, have a look, spokes are placed alternately.

The finest example of a wheel is the London Eye, ( see details on the internet ), designed and fabricated by Dutchmen, of course,  Holland has the most bicycles in western Europe !

By the way, who's design is your avatar, the Griffon ?   Thanks, bye, Ger.

@ ratatouie : is your avatar a Griffon ? And if so, why, please ?

Since he seems to be incapacitated beyond the ability to pose retardate questions, the symbol in his avatar is the South Carolina Gamecock.

I think he just likes making people say "cock".
