Let's get it straight: En passant isn't cheating.

Then that’s cheating. I got expelled from a tournament for doing ent possont, I learned the hard way

Interesting...didn't know that there were professionals that didn't know that en passant was a thing

It’s not a thing!!

🎶Denial is the first step🎶

Is there any article or evidence that suggests that En Passant is NOT a thing???

...

I guess not.

En passant is definitely not cheating. If anything is cheating, it’s moving your pawn 2 spaces and evading capture!

Interesting...apparently there are times when you can do en passant on a pawn that moved up two spaces. It has happened to me before when I have played against people. I move a pawn up two spaces and then someone does en passant to capture it

Srimurugan108

En passent is

not an easy

tactic

Obviously it’s a legal tactic but if it wasn’t that would be unfair

Tactics are tactics...

ok?

The problem is not a matter of cheating. It never arises in play over a board. You never see a pawn just vanish in that form, But it can happen on the internet.

Other technical details I leave to the experts to discuss, of which there seems to be no lack here.

Can people stop saying things like "en passant is cheating, he hacked chess.com"? I'm getting tired of it now. If you think it's cheating, then ask the people at FIDE and chess.com. They'll laugh at you.

You make a very good point, icositetc, but it is the internet that seems to be the problem, The question never comes up over the board, or if it does, you are ushered from the room.

So is en passant not used often in face-to-face tournaments or playing?

Chesssens, it happens often in the situation you speak about, but the question of its validity seldom comes up, and if it does, the matter is probably decided outside the room, as they like it to be quiet there.
