We had an assembly today in school, and we had it for one of our old teachers, who’s retiring. It was supposed to be a sad and emotional, meaningful experience for everyone, and for some reason the teachers thought it was a good idea to let the TY students (my class) help with the organising. Well, that decision was.. not a good one.

We were meant to give a speech or bring up something meaningful to the stage, like flowers, a painting of a butterfly, whatever. We had to line up outside the school door and walk into the gym, hand up our stuff to the stage, say our speech, play a song, etc and sit down. Before we were supposed to walk into the gym we were waiting outside for our cue to go. Every other class was sitting in the warm gym singing a sweet song about “spreading your wings”, while I was telling the boys in my class to stop beating each other with the instruments they were holding. And then one kid called out “literally nobody likes you Vanessa!” Which is the  teacher’s first name and he said it right when the song was ending and everyone heard and the principal starting yelling at him from and it was so awkward 😭

Wow. My assemblies were never that interesting.
