Maharajah and the Sepoys

I found this chess variant in wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maharajah_and_the_Sepoys

This game is about white's Maharajah against a normal black army. Of course, a side can win by checkmate. P.S: pawns can't promote

The Maharajah is a compound of a queen and a knight.

I found this game really unbalanced because the maharajah is only worth about 13-14 points and black's army is 3(king) + 6(bishops) + 6(knights) + 10(rooks) + 9 (queen) + 8(pawns) which is a total of 42 points.

Also, black can remain undefeatable by keeping a fortress if he/she (or itSmile) is losing.

Here, I want to improve this game by several plans:

  1. add a move control: The white wins if he/she/it was able to hold for about 30-40 moves or so (this will be boring)
  2. empower the maharajah: The maharajah can only be captured if 2 pieces are attacking it - this makes pawn promotion possible but the maharajah is now a fearsome attacker
  3. Weaken the Sepoys (duh)

Any more ideas... post here!

This game is a great game, it's just too bad that it's not playable.

P.S: if you add more white pieces than the whole point of this one man game is refuted!
