Mental Health and Chess?

I started playing chess again to improve my mental health. I even found a coach who is a therapist who uses his Chess coaching his therapy. I have been noticing a lot of connections between my struggles with the game and challenges in real life. Does anyone else sense those connections? Sidenote: I have skimmed a few articles about Chess improving intelligence. They focus on young people. I'm older. What do people think? Does getting better at Chess simply help you.... get better at Chess. Or can any skills transfer to the rest of your life?

I never was good at strategy in any game, but playing chess has helped improve on that

I suck at chess, but other games I play sure do help me calm myself down and reflect on the current events of my life.

Calming one's self down and reflecting on what's going on. Both sound good. If you revisit this thread I would be curious which games help you the most for that. Thanks
