Moderators?

As a rule, I generally assume that every key stroke and every click I make on my computer is recorded somewhere, and therefor accessible to someone.  If I don't want something I did or said online to be found out, I just don't do or say it.

My impression is that so far, this thread has been mainly about claiming something, then complaining about it, and hoping that this provocation results in someone coming by who gives all of the desired information.

And it seems to me that there could be better ways of asking those who know to come by and give that information.

In this thread, my impression is that the original poster may have had his question resolved quite quickly and easily if he had given more detailed information on his observations instead of giving the impression of jumping to claims and quick conclusions.

From what I have read here, I still cannot exclude so far that he may have simply encountered an automated mod in one of his Live Chess games and misinterpreted this to be a human mod reading his game chat. This is why I had started to try to ask him for more detailed information, because this is the simplest and most probable scenario I can guess so far with the information given.

As explained above, depending on the details behind your question, I might have been able to answer and resolve this for you in the sense given above.

I'm sorry to see that you do not feel like trying that suggestion of a path of resolving your question, and that you do not feel I can be of any help to you here.

So good luck in trying your way of asking for some helpful information!

I do not like the thought of some pervert looking at my chat.

Do these moderators get training and are they screened before they get the position.

I'm still confused, guys. Is it only live chess chats or online (correspondance) chess? And just WHO exactly gets to read our conversations? Luckily most of mine make absolutely no sense, or are very calm, so I'm not worried if anything has been read, but the point is, where's the privacy? And when did we lose it and to whom? And since it IS a privacy issue, it should be disclosed somewhere or something would NEED to be done about it, right? So if enough of us make enough noise to the staff, something would be done, right? Or am I just in protest mode?

the font is all for you Gab ;)

So I wonder, CM ilmago was I supposedly "yelling" too??? lol

Sheesh guys.

Ok, all moderators, both forum and live chess are thoroughly checked before given any tools. None of them are 'child moderators'.

Live chess volunteer help - These moderators have no tools outside of live chess itself. They can view current game chat and main chatroom chat. They cannot observe any private chats unless specifically invited to join.

Forum volunteers - These moderators are taken on to work in the forums.

Forum moderators and live chess moderators are not staff, they are long time members of the site who care about the site and who volunteer their own free valuable time to help keep the site a safe and friendly place for all to play.

Yes members of staff can see game chats. We get umpteen complaints on a daily basis from members saying things like 'he was abusive, look at my game chat'.

We don't go in there to 'perve' on game chat as someone above mentioned.

If a member is not a member of staff or has moderator tools, then no they cannot view anyone elses correspondance game chat, not during or after.

Live chess help need to be able to view game chat in order to help those in a game having problems. Some days, the small main chatroom gets so busy, its hard to catch what a player is saying if they are responding to a helper regarding their game.

ALL moderators use discretion, they are highly trusted members of the site and they are not taken on on a whim. Neither are any of them here today, gone tomorrow.

Private chat isn't always available :(  Also if a member has issues with a game clock or needs a moderator to view his game to explain en passant for example, its harder to keep going back and forth between the game window and main chatroom to explain this. Also, not all members are premiums, and game chat doesn't have a 30 second text limit on it.

All moderators are trusted and do, as i've said, use the utmost discretion. They are mature enough to not want or need to go into a friends game to see whats being said. They have enough to keep them occupied elsewhere.

Not all mods can see correspondance chat.(no live chess mod can see correspondance game chat)

Karl it may not mean much to some here, but I do trust the teams of moderators.

Karl, you said ; 'This part I don't understand.'

There have been times when we've had to take down private chat to get this fixed. Moderators have then created unrated games in order to use the game chat as a means of chatting one to one with someone.
