Actually in some large extended traditional families that worry too much about lineage and purity, the first kid of the generation is pampered like a god child. The subsequent kids are just like not news, stale bread.

Yeah, seems to go in cycles, with one generation overcompensating for how their parents screwed up.
And tying both topics together (birth order and parents not knowing what they're doing) sometimes the oldest has it harder because that's the kid the parents have the least experience with.
