Al, your approach is promoted by the V.A.--the quit date. But like you said, not all methods work on all people. Some do it with Chantex, others hypnosis, others cold turkey. I'm already breathing better, deeper. My appetite's coming back. I should start exercizing again, get back to playing drums.
NO SMOKING!

yes
what is important is not the success, but the way . The drums seem a good method, I guess.
to do exercizing is good, maybe jogging, why not ?
To totally stop could make the tobaccos firms ruined too.
It is important to save jobs I guess. Think to it.
there are Two markets: the smokers and those who try to stop. Both are increasing.
In France , they said "it is patriotic to drink wine and cognac brandy".. But it is France/ EU.

Sunday, I did 3 cigs but I did it while wearing the patch. Today, I did 3 but WITHOUT the patch.
Keep a log, and keep track of your progress 🤓

There is this thing called "Celebrate Recovery" that has helped some of my mom's friends. You should see if there is one near you RCJ.

Keep a log, and keep track of your progress 🤓
yes , the log started on june 2015, post one, I guess, not sure.
Sometimes it takes (my case) 15 years of log to cease to smoke, not easy.

Well I haven't checked in for a few weeks but I'm making progress. I had 2 days of 4 cigs and 1 day of 3. (I ALMOST had 2 days of 3), but I'm being honest. I also cut my patch in half and my body is responding to it. I'm caughing my head off.
Feels good to be breathing without wheezing too. At the class I'm going to at the V.A the smoking cessation therapist said, "your body probably doesn't have a physical addiction to it any more, but you still have an emotional attachment to it.
I still need to keep myself distracted and busy while my journey continues to 0 cigs for 5 days.

Do push ups. Or, try doing push ups after a smoke. You really can’t or don’t want to. If you do push ups while you crave, the craving will dissipate. Congrats so far.

it is good, and it creates two markets too : the one of the cigs customers, and the one of those who never stop to try.
I had an experiment with two relatives; and Allen Carr method:
one stopped definitely, it works,
the other follows your approach, it may work too, who knows ?
good luck congrats

Ronald,
Your therapist concluded it as an "emotional attachment?"
interesting?!
have not heard that one before, not to Cancer-sticks that is.

Interesting post 327
it is brand new: in EU, when they commit a rape now, therapists in vienna (Freud's town) tells "it is a sexual emergency after an emotionnal schock", and the guy don't go into jail anymore !
in political debates, for any difficult question embarrassing the other, he answers "i find that you react emotionnaly".
50 dollars / 30 mn I guess, the way to institutionnalize any problem, not to solve it.

Piper, NOW its emotional. You know, its been a security blanket for 40 yrs. After you eat--have a cig. Get in the car--have a cig. She was implying that I should look into myself and be honest. If you don't have the physical addiction to smoke.....?... should you be spending money to make yourself look cool.? Do you REALLY need it,....if all your doing is driving for 10 miles.? If you do need them then your just playing mind games and you really don't want to quit. People who have the physical addiction are doing 10+ cigs a day.

Ron, you are getting there , slowly , but progress has been made.
Its just that last step , we all know thats the toughie.
Just making that first 0 in one day will make day 2 far easier to manage , 3 even easier , and by 4 you will be kicking yourself for not making that 0 move earlier!
For the first 0 day, try and break the usual routine , do/go something or somewhere different , ideally with a none smoker , or someone who has themselves quit and been where you are now.
When you get that day over............its over!

Its just that last step , we all know thats the toughie. actually, it may not be. those that quit have a high recidivism rate. the way cigs have been engineered is to addict us, and, it has worked. after zero cigs on day one, a person needs to remain absolute, that they will not have another. the physical addiction wears off in about a week. the mental addiction can take years to overcome.

breaking habits is one way, but, you may still want to smoke after dinner-for years. i'm not writing this to sound like debbie downer.
when it comes down to it, it is about choice.
if you want to do it, you will.
i remember, about six months after i had quit, i was walking to a concert. outside the venue were many smokers. smelling it reminded me of how i loved to smoke, and i did love it. my brain was playing tricks on me, but, one thing i had committed to when i quit was, do not have one. i didn't.
i will tell you, that, after about six months smoke free, you will still want one, but, realize that one can turn into a pack a day next week, and, you do not want to waste the effort you have put in to stop.

Ron, After 20 years and 20 plus a day I stopped.
The first day was not easy , but I expected that. The second day was much easier and after 3 days much easier again.
We are all different of course but Ive never felt like smoking at all since, and its now 31 years . Dont think of relapse before you even stop, thats indicating an excuse not to stop, or " Ill have the odd one now and again if I feel stressed".
Thats the road to failure , before you even begin.
All non-smokers are those who don't lite cigs, why ?
because the perfume and the smell are better ! (as matter of .... fact, what all the dreamers).
