Raise your goblet of rock!

Here's a couple that hit the ground running and never let up.

... and this one just because I like it.

%#@@%$!!! I just listened to this track and found it cuts off the last part of the song. There is a couple seconds of silence near the end and then the song picks up again. Apparently the recording software took the silence as the end and the user didn't notice or didn't know the difference. I'm trying to find the full version.

Rock is an incredibly diverse genre, encompassing a wide variety of tones, rythyms, and tempi. I'm primarily interested in the music. If I like the music then I'll like the song regardless of the lyrics. I don't even know the words to some major hits I've listened to for decades. If I don't like the music I probably won't like the song no matter how good the lyrics. Here's a couple songs as examples of widely different tempo and tone. The first is up-tempo and has a fairly clean sound. The second is much slower with a very heavy distortion on the guitar. I like both about equally.

Nice Gomer, thanks for contributing. True what you say about the wide variety to be enjoyed 👍

Boom!

And this because I like the video 😆

Welcome History. I think it's normal to remain fond of the music of our youth...the stuff I liked in my teens and early 20's is still my favourite stuff now.

Here is a 21st century country song for you 😁

And an awesome duet with Amy Lee ❤️

Hmm 🤔 the cover is polished and performed beautifully, the original has a slightly rougher charm.

I was a Eric Clapton fan even before Derick and the Dominos.  I cut my teeth with my first guitar on country and rockers like Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry.  I skipped the 70's and 80's  simply because of disco.  I picked up again with totally different sounds like the Police and their Reggae sound.  In this century I find little I like.  I guess I'm just to old to get it.

I came of age in the '70s. There was so much more than disco being produced. I never cared for disco either. Here's a song from the early '70s and one from the early '80s you may like.

This was recorded in the '80s but released after Stevie Ray's death in 1990. I've watched too many friends struggle with alcoholism. It's not pretty.

Strangemover seems to like harder stuff so I'll get back on track with this one from the middle of the disco era. Believe me, it's far from disco. The tone is a little too electronic to suit me but I love the guitar solo near the end.

It's funny you mention Eddie Van Halen. He ruled the early '80s. The best concert I ever saw was in Cleveland in 1978. Black Sabbath was doing their 10th anniversary tour and also promoting their "Never Say Die" album. There was this unknown band called Van Halen opening for them. They came out and rocked the coliseum for over an hour. At that time I was a tried and true Sabbath fan and I didn't think Sabbath could top them. They did with room to spare. What a concert!

I was going to school in Columbus and when Ohio State was out for the summer the cover charges for the clubs went way down. I saw another unknown band called AC/DC for a $5.00 cover with about 200 other people. Nice show.

I kind of lost interest in the Doobies after McDonald. Their earlier stuff is some of my favorite music. I tried learning Snake Man for a while but there's something in the melody my fingers didn't like.

Ahem...back on track?! Very well, here is a classic for the grandpa's!

Gomer_Pyle

I like this one much better. The early part is kind of haunting and later a pulsing, driving rythym intensifies the mood. Ah, the variety of Rock!

Gomer_Pyle

Yeah, my finger are slowing down too. I never cared for the electronic distortion tone prevalent in the '80s. Tube distortion has a much warmer, fuller tone. I suppose these days even electronic distortion can be made to sound like tubes.

Anyway, I don't just like old stuff. I'm always exploring but mostly in other genres for the last few years. Here's a more recent song that I suppose should be called Rock. You might want to skip to 1:00 to bypass the intro and get to the music. And now I need to go fix food. Music may lift your soul but food helps lift the rest of you.

I like it! Getting Depeche Mode vibes.

Gomer_Pyle

You're right, that Hu song does bring Depeche Mode to mind. I've always liked Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus. To diverge a little, there's always something poignant about an artist singing about their upcoming death. Johnny Cash knew he didn't have long when he recorded his version of Personal Jesus. David Bowie knew he was dying of liver cancer when he recorded Lazarus. Two greats gone too soon.
