200 Future, it could be enteresting

Firstplay

200yrs in the past had many similarities to today, where I live anyway.  Rising food prices amongst rising unemployment. Introduction of poaching laws meant many people starved.  A national debt of £834 million.  A 'Gag Act' to suppress political opposition from the poor and meant arrest without charge.  Govt spies reported on groups of working people discussing politics and only the wealthy people allowed to be politicians.

You'd think we'd have advanced in 200 yrs but many of these aspects of society are still in force when you consider the number of £millionaires on the front bench in Parliament.  We still have illegal blacklisting of trade unionists and Govt spying reaching it's tentacles out through everyone's telephone and pc.  Hunger and desperation can be seen in almost every major City and the rich still don't pay the taxes.  To quote Lennon (not Lenin) 'and we think we're so clever and classless and free' (Working Class Hero)  I'll not repeat the last line of the verse due to bad language used, but if y'don't know it then look it up.

So, given that much hasn't changed in the last 200 yrs, without political change then it's likely nothing much will change in the next 200yrs, except technology.  Riding a big motorbike that doesn't make a good noise just wouldn't be the same :-)

200 years into the future everyone will have a microchip in there finger with a chess computer calculating every combination possible for best counter moves.....so everyone will be playing draws ...anyone who wins or loses will be thrown in jail for cheating

Firstplay

Nah, the jails will be full of impoverished people.

Looking at the rising sea levels, and ice melts greater than all predictions, then there may not be many places left in 200 years.  Life may have been harsh 200 ago but at least there was something to stand on.

maybe I will have to then stand on someone elses shoulders to give me a better chance of survivingsurprise.pngsurprise.png

Now that I think about it... 200 years ago was just 4 years before the "official" beginning of the Greek Revolution of 1821 against the Ottoman Empire :-O

That would have been worth seeing I think Eseles.  Bet they never thought that they'd need another one!

Firstplay gets it!

You always hear that expression that we're merely 'standing on the shoulders of giants' - well 200 year ago would be your chance of being one of those giants. 200 in years in the future could be your chance of seeing all of our current fears validated.

Yep, by there being nothing to see.

A pity more  people don't take an interest.  We could well have a nuclear holocaust, looking more likely all the time with the current crop of erstwhile leaders across the world.  I find it pleasing that more are waking up to their ideology of divide and rule, but it'd be better if even more did.

And the rising sea levels, regardless of what people think the cause is, is very real.

In two hundred years time it looks an almost certainty that there'll be a dramatically reduced living area.  Land will be at a premium, as will be food and drinking water.  I wonder which class of people will decide who lives and who dies.  We're only here on a visit; I think we should make the most of it, try our best to secure a future for our children, and their children.  To fail isn't shameful.  To not even try is beyond my comprehension I'm afraid.
