I myself prefer using OSX... how about everyone else?

Never has a Microsoft operating system been greeted with such a lack of enthusiasm from consumers and businesses alike

hahais Microsoft really so surprised ?

At the moment i'm running 4 mac's ranging from osx 9 to Panther, a Windows home and 7 Win XP pro. I'm still much the novice with macs and used to fear and shun them .. but i'm now finding out they are more capable than i gave them credit for.

One of the macs has now been turned into a web server :)

Linux gets used mainly for banking purposes on my machines and  puppy linux gets used on the laptop more than windows does. Its ok, it has a lot of good points about it, and i keep thinking about changing all the windows machines here over to linux some day ..

As for vista, well, i've used it a fair amount and can honestly it seems to have been designed for security issues/purposes only .. its not exactly software compatible with anything previous, it hates networking with anything other than other vista's, i didn't find it user friendly and a lot of the additional software added to the OS expires after 30 or 60 days.

In a choice of vista against mac ... definately the mac ... [heck anything is better than vista].

I have never owned a Mac but I have used quite a few at the basic office level and can say they are quality machines. However, like most, I have been using Windows for years. I never had performance issues even while using Windows for digital audio recording/mastering and for graphic and 3D design. At some point a friend introduced me to Knoppix Linux for use a diagnostic utility and I've been hooked since. Currently I use Ubuntu and can say that it is a solid OS. I try to evagelize Linux and the open-source movement as much as possible. The only catch to my transition process was Adobe's Creative Suite. I use that software everyday and I haven't been able to find quality replacements for a few of the products. Sure, there is GIMP and GIMPShop that holds up to Photoshop for the most part - as for the rest of the suite (i.e. Dreamweaver, Flash, After Effects, Illustrator, etc...) - I'm still waiting. I use VirtualBox by Sun Microsystems to run Windows XP Pro on my Ubuntu system and it works so far. I will be benchmarking my various OS arrangements soon and posting the results online at http://www.deeperdatait.com. I'm interested in hearing other's comments. Anyone experiencing the same Adobe dilemma?

Linux - hands down.

Right now I'm using UbuntuStudio (mostly for music apps).

I don't need software that Windows offers, but, then again, I am starting things with Linux, rather than making a major switch.

I'm sure you'll be happy with it, unless it breaks. Then Heaven help you...

I remember Vista.

Just overclock it, then you can do whatever.

I somehow managed to avoid Vista. Well, except that I bought an old PC in a garage sale a few years ago that has Vista on it. But I haven't really used it yet.

I remember people complaining about it but don’t remember why. I didn’t do much with it besides write so I never had any problems with it.

From what I've read, Microsoft tried to make Vista work as a desktop GUI *and* a tablet GUI. Instead, it missed the mark in both cases and only succeeded in irritating everyone.
